Well it is Mardi Gras week here in New Orleans. All the kids are out and everyone I know is going to Disney. Here locally we call this Cajun Week at Disneyworld! The park is going to be flooded with people wearing Saints and LSU gear!

Who Dat and Geaux Tigers!!!

Have a great time everyone!

Shout out from the bayou! Wish we were there this year! And it's "Whom would that be?!?!"
:joker:

We were there last year during Mardi Gras week. I wish we were there this year too!

We were at MK today, and I'd say the crowds were somewhat heavy. I'd say equivalent of late May/early June. Oddly, Pirates had a solid 60 minute wait for most of the day and so did "it's a small world". Space and BTMRR topped out at 70 and Buzz was about 55 throughout the day. While I wouldn't call that unbelievably crowded, I did find it odd considering the first of March is generally towards the end of a slower time of year. Spring Break hasn't started yet and President's Week crowds are long gone. The only thing I could think of was the last week of summer break for South American schools, but this makes sense as well.

We were thinking of going during Mardi Gras next year, but then realized it falls during President's Week, so that's definitely out. Just a little jealous of those there right now, hope you all have a great time!!

ISMW waits over 30 minutes is crowded in my book. That one is usually the ride everyone goes on when everything else has a long wait. Kind of an overflow ride. :)

Hmmmmm, Maybe EPCOT should do the Cajun version of F&W Festival????

My younger son is on spring break this coming week, and would LOVE to head down to New Orleans for a few days.

Cajun week! That's cute! We call it "Mickey Gras" when we visit Disney during Mardi Gras. We were there last year. Wish we were there now! Hope all you cajuns that made it there this year are having a great time.

We saw some Mardi Gras shirts in MK on Friday; that was one very crowded day! Because of Mardi Gras, the start of college spring break and hearing LOTS of foreign accents, I predict HEAVY crowds this coming week.

Wow, I'd be all over that, especially if they would actually serve 'authenic' south LA food, instead of what usually passes for 'cajun'! ::yes::

Dh just said yesterday that he was ready for me to make a crawfish pie - yum!

I agree about what passes as Cajun outside of Louisiana. We were at Riverside for a week for Thanksgiving. We tried several of their "Cajun" dishes at both the food court and Boat Wright's, as well as the food court at French Quarter. None of it was authentic....at all...... The gumbo served in the food court at Riverside was not like any gumbo I have ever seen or tasted. It tasted more like a chili. Lol. We typically don't order anything "Cajun" outside of Louisiana.

:thumbsup2 Couldn't agree more. We have learned just not to order it! Sometimes it's like a soup - they think if they put okra in it - it's automatically a 'gumbo'!! ;)

We did get some beignets at the French Quarter, and while they weren't like Cafe du Monde, they were 'passable'. :) (I was really wanting some 'bad')

If it has Cayenne pepper in it then it must be Cajun and the more pepper the more Cajun! :)

I am surprised they don't have more of a French Quarter feel in the parks since Walt loved the area so much.

In the past only the New Orleans schools and colleges were out for the week. In the past the Northshore and Baton Rouge area school were just out for 2-3 days. Now all of those areas are out for the full week so that is contributing to more folks heading to Disney.

We were there last year during this week as well. Stayed at POFQ so it made it even better. Loved it!! The crowds were doable and everyone was so nice that was there. My kids totally loved hearing all the "cajun" accents. ;)

I live in Lafayette Parish. The schools here only get 3 days off. It's been this way for as long as I can remember (even throughout all of my own school years-which was long ago-lol) However, we just pull our kids out for the Thursday and Friday when we go to WDW for Mardi Gras. It's what most people do around here. So even though many Louisiana schools aren't out for the whole week that's not stopping tons of families from going for the week anyway.

But I do agree with you that each time we go to Disney for MG it seems more and more crowded, still manageable, but definitely more crowds. Comparing our last two MG trips (2011 and 2013) there was a huge increase in crowds. Actually our 2013 MG trip was noticeably more crowded than our 2013 Thanksgiving week trip. It used to be the opposite. In past years MG was definitely the less crowded time of the two holidays, but not last year.

Well looks like our great state is trying to make it official!
