Given the recent thread on the dis I'm thinking off giving cafe Mickey a miss in march.
We have half plus and know we can eat in some great places.

I used to love cafe Mickey when the sung and danced Buffett desert etc.
Last time we where there 2 years ago it' was ok food wise but not quite the same.

We are staying at the SL in a gf room for 6 nights, so know we will meet Mickey etc. also my DH is coming for the first time and I kind of don't want to Disney him out as not sure how he's going to like it.

Would you go the first night and hope for the best or not go at all ?
I just not sure how I can take walking past everyday and not go in :confused3

We are possibly going to not go at all. Partly because of the awful reviews recently and partly because we are staying in the DLH and not sure we will want to go and eat at the far end of the village. I am thinking; we may do it on our final day or depending on how much spends we have left we will do Inventions for a second time instead.

We're not going. Seems it's going down everyday and reviews don't look good at all. I'd rather save some money for Inventions. I had no problems going past it las trip and no regrets.

its been nearly 3 years since i've been to cafe mickey.
i always say no to a conservatory table, don't pay for kids meals because i think they are very poor value for money, and we've always had lots of characters coming around the tables. Service is very hit and miss at Cafe Mickey i find.

Next trip I will have a 5-year old with me, but I'm not sure if i'll take her to Cafe Mickey - hopefully we'll get the chance to meet the characters she wants to meet without paying for Cafe Mickey dinner or lunch.

In those three years the number of characters has gone down a lot, that's part of the problem. When we started off it was easily 10 or more. Nowadays you are lucky to see 6, and mostly it's the same ones: Mickey, Goofy, Pluto, Minnie etc. which you normally also see at the hotel meets in the mornings.

We were always willing to deal with the bad service for the characters. But since they even took that away part we have not been anymore.

We didn't go on our last trip last February and we didn't regret it.

On our previous last trip in December 2010 we went and there was no music, service wasnt't the best and the food was at best mehhh :rolleyes2

Instead we tried out Rainforest Cafe & Plaza gardens for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised.

Aw you guys! :(

I dithered over where to book but chose Cafe Mickey, then I saw the bad reviews and dithered again but was persuaded to stick with CM ..... now I'm dithering again and we leave on Sunday
:sad2:

If not Cafe Mickey then where? We want to meet characters but we want a good meal too!

ILOVEDLP we are in the same boat as you - we arrive the same day and also have HB plus. The last few trips Cafe Mickey has been a must do for us, but after reading recent reviews on here I am seriously doubting whether its worth it. I have to say that last March our meal was nice and the character interaction was ok - tho we only saw the usual suspects ie Tigger, Pluto, goofy and Mickey. I know DS will be disappointed if we don't eat there, but its not about the quality of the food for him its all about the characters. DD has read the reviews with me and she is of the opinion that we shouldn't go - a smart head on 9 year old shoulders.

My big question now is where to eat if we don't go there? I will definitely book HNY buffet for at least one night, we don't want to go to Plaza Gardens or Annettes, so where will we get the best value for our vouchers?:confused3

Have you thought of the Steakhouse in the Disney Village or the Buffet at Billy Bobs? Both if these restaurants are very good.

We are booking Cafe Mickey for our first night at DLP.

Given our awful experiences we've had in the past, I'm really reluctant to do so, but it's my Niece's first trip and I think it will be a great introduction to the characters for her.

We will also do Inventions during our stay and Auberge - hoping to get some nice full autographs books! :thumbsup2

I'm now wondering.... Was gonna do this as my meal for my birthday... Getting the cake etc...
I really have experience of anywhere else, and wanted it to b fairly cheap....
Arghhhhh

Other option is Inventions

Thinking Sunday Brunch in the steak house.
Sad to say giving it a miss this time.

Inventions is much pricier - but totally worth it if you could stretch?

TBH though - we have only eaten at CM once; during our August 2012 trip and we really enjoyed it for what it was. Food was nice enough (we had a pizza between RB and I and DH had steak) and cheap; and we saw Mickey; Minnie; Goofy; Pluto and Chip n Dale. Our only issue was they flew round the tables (with the exception of Pluto) but it actually worked in our favour back then as RB was ill.

Think your 9 year old right
Thinking walts and lagoon hunters grill and cape code for now.
Let you know what I book

We are also going to give it a miss this time I think. Sad, but it has gone downhill. :sad2:

I've only been to cafe mickey twice and we have enjoyed both visits. And we shall be visiting again in march during our next trip. My wife and i share a pizza so for a character experience at a fairly reasonable cost then we find cafe mickey ideal.

DW and I have reservations for dinner at Cafe Mickey tonight. I'll post a review afterwards.

Will eagerly wait for your review. I'm disappointed with their menu change - I don't like it.
