We made a trip to Caddo Lake located in far northeast Texas this past week. The lake straddles the Texas/Louisiana border. The town we stayed in is named Uncertain, Tx. I'm told there are many theories on how the town got it's name so I won't even try. This place is like stepping back in time and one of the most recognizable things there is the spanish moss that hangs from the cypress trees. The cypress trees hadn't yet started turning green but I still enjoyed the beauty. Here are some of my favorite shots I managed to get......

I've done some hunting in that area, you can scream and nobody will hear you. It's scary in the dark and don't ever watch a Bigfoot documentary before you go there. You will constantly be looking over you shoulder.

Very nice photos!!

nice shots, think i like the last one or flooded bench best but all are nice

and good to know that is where all those texan shows on Monsterquest are from so i can avoid the area;)

Beautiful! I liked them all but I really liked the sky in #9. The clouds look like you took a long timed exposure. You know like when some people do a shot every so many seconds and you can almost see the clouds move? That's the feeling I get when I look at #9.

Very nice pictures. Its difficult to pick a favorite because I like too many to choose.

Thank you all for the nice comments. It is a very serene place to visit, but a bit of spookiness at night to be sure. ;)

I appreciate it DSF. Actually, #9 was at 1/200 sec and f/11. The effect is had due to the focal length being at 10mm. It does give the sensation of motion, though. Glad you like it as it's one of my favorites as well. It currently serves as my 24" monitor background. :goodvibes

I meant to add before that the sunrise shots were done with my 10 year old daughter at my side. She popped right out of the bed at 6am to tag along with me and made the outing that much more special.......

Really beautiful shots Danny! Love the one of your DD the best!

Stunning! I love 2 & 3! I would love to get in there with my infrared camera!!

We love going to Caddo. We used to go there a lot before we had kids. Now we only make it out about once every other year. We camp on an island in the NW part of the lake called Alligator Island. There are some great canoe trails that are hard to access via motor boat up in that part of the lake. It's an amazing area for birding. If you want some real spooky fun, trying canoeing in the middle of the night. You'll here a lot of really strange noises!

Here are a few shots from our last camping trip.

Those are great Mark. I think I recall you mentioning going there in a thread not too long ago. We actually did see Alligator Island as we were exploring all the bayous, nooks, and crannies. If I recall, it's not too far from Whangdoodle Pass. ;) (just had to get that in there)

We heard enough strange sounds during the daytime canoeing. I don't think the kids would be brave enough for that night canoeing though!

We did our first night canoeing there years ago out of necessity. We drove up after work on a Friday and wanted to camp out in the swamp that night. That meant paddling in the dark. We didn't even have much moonlight that night. That was pre-GPS, so it was a real test of our navigating skills.

I think that my oldest son's first canoeing outing was a night paddle out to the campsite. That night, we were met at the dock by some friends that had already set up camp on the island. We put his little PFD on, laid on our gear in the middle of the boat, covered him (it was drizzling), and paddled out into the darkness. I think that he slept the entire time. He was six months old at the time.

I remember the next day that he used to giggle every time my wife would call "hut" (which is the signal to switch paddling sides).

If you ever want to camp out on the island, let me know and we'll meet you there.

That's a pretty cool story. I like the "hut" signal. That would be nice to hook up for an island camping trip. That's assuming our Nikon and Canon gear would get along with one another.......

Great shots Nostalgic....as usual.

As I was scrolling down the page I was thinking the same thing as the others...beautiful yet very creepy. Don't think Disney will build there anytime soon. Can't imagine paddling there in the dead of night.
