Hi,
How do cab services work in Orlando? Can you phone them up or is it like a black cab service? Also how do you know who the reputable ones are?
I'm going to some small gigs in clubs and I've no idea where the clubs are until I get there and I figured theres probably not a late night bus service (is this right?) and I'll need to get cabs back.

Thanks,
Zoe

Towncars are a better way than cabs/shuttles.They cost less, are nice and clean cars.we used cartier last june and they are great.

You can tell the reputable taxis - they are the Yellow Taxi cab co, and are...ummm, yellow :) Plus, they have a little taxi light on top - I can't remember which way round it is, but the outside lights on the bar or the middle bit lights up when it is for hire - you can tell when you see it :)

The buses just stink - I'm not sure there will be any late at night really - it depends where you are going and staying, but you can check out the Lynx website for their routes and schedules. Personally I think taxi is best though. If it's a decent size place, there will probably be a taxi rank on or nearby the place. Or alternatively you can ring them up and order one.

I use cabs all the time in Orlando. Obviously the biger the party the least expensive it works out.

Yellow Cab and Checker Cabs are the reputable ones.

Town and Country (black sedans) also offer cabs but I don't find them that good.

If at WDW I always get valets to order the cabs, if I'm on I-Drive or out and about I ring the taxi number and they send one straight away. Taxi's also are at exits for all the parks and you can easily pick one up.

A lot of the taxi drivers will give you their card and ask you to ring them direct if you need picking up - this works well for me and they'll normally turn off the meter and charge you a flat fare which is also good if you get stuck in traffic.

Beware cabs known as Gipsy Cabs - these are uninsured drivers who drive taxis that have been sprayed yellow - ask to see Yellow Cab I.D. - if in doubt - but normally you'll see writing scrubbed out on their windows or car.

If you have further questions taxi's please let me know - as I may not have covered all your queries.

Thanks for the help everyone! I thought yellow cabs were just New York :o

Just a couple more silly questions.

How do I find out the number of a reputable cab firm and how much roughly would you expect to pay to go 9 miles? I know it's based on time but I'm just trying to get a rough idea. I'll want to go from I Drive to North Orange Ave (does anyone know it?) as that's where both the gigs are.
