Cabs & Car Seats (We won't have one)

Sort of a dumb question....

We're flying into Seattle for the Alaska cruise :) We have a toddler (age 3).

I was just informed by a Towncar service company that they will not provide a ride for us from the hotel (Pan Pacific) to Pier 91 if we do not have a carseat.

We weren't planning on bringing one since we're flying in and taking the Light Rail.

Does anyone know whether cabs require a car seat as well? I never thought about this issue before...Seems obvious now that I type this question out.

We'll bring one if it is necessary..but I've never taken a cab with our toddler before. (I know on airport shuttles/cruise port shuttles/buses do not require car seats.)

Thanks!

Don't know, but even if cabs don't, why chance it? Would you put your toddler in a regular car without a car seat? We are bringing our toddler convertible car seat along. It's a pain in the ___ inconvenience, will take up valuable cabin space, but if anything happened without one, we wouldn't be able to live with ourselves.

There is a reason they won't give you a ride without your child in a carseat- its very unsafe (I was an accident invesigator for a long time and worked many crashes where the parents in seatbelts weren't hurt at all and the small child who didn't fit right or was unsecured died.) In most places Taxis are exempt but I would never recommend doing this because Taxis get in accidents too. Shuttles and buses are much safer because of their size, it takes longer for them to stop in a crash and its the sudden stopping and g forces caused on the body that usually kills. I would recommend bringing the carseat or taking a shuttle bus.

Call around until you find a car service that will provide a car seat. They are available. Wish I could recommend one, but I can't remember who we used 5 years ago when DS still needed one.

Great idea, thanks!

Is he or she big enough for a backless booster? (just for this trip at least.). You can buy one for less than $15, which only weighs about 2 pounds, (mine are made by harmony) and just donate it when before you get back on your flight for the trip home.

let me see if I can find who we just used in June.
They had car seats.

Thanks!

I'm so glad we were actually told "No" by the car service. If we had just flown in I would be stuck wondering why no cabs or towncars would pick us up :confused3

I think we used quickcoach in vancouver for our alaska cruise. They also go to Seattle and they had a car seat available.

The Washington State child restraint law excludes vehicles for hire. So you're not required to use them in cabs, buses, etc. Personally, I wouldn't chance it especially with a wiggly 3-year old. Do some more research, you'll find a company that will provide them.

Thanks! We looked them up but they don't pick up from the Pan Pacific (our hotel).

They don't have scheduled pick ups fromPan Pacific but you could still book a point to point trip from them. I would try getting a quote anyway.
