Cable/vcr question -- HELP!

Okay, CABLE IN seems to come from the wall to the cable box.

CABLE OUT seems to go from cable box to tv.

There is a wire that looks just like the CABLE OUT wire that is only hooked to the VCR/DVD (duh...i'm guessing THAT'S the problem). One end plugs into RF IN, the other plugs into RF OUT.

I see no spot for CABLE IN on the VCR/DVD.

RF-in would be the same as CABLE-in. The OUT from the Cable Box should go to RF in on the VCR. The RF-out should go to the TV. But most TVs only have one CABLE in type jack and have multiple VIDEO jacks.

If you just got an HD (High Def) box, there should be an different cable (not the same as the one from the wall) to the TV. Is your TV HighDef?

The preferred way to hook up would be CABLE from the wall to the Cable box then use the VIDEO out jacks on the back of the Cable box to the TV and the VCR. The VIDEO out from the back of the HD Cable box should go to the TV. The VIDEO out from the back of the VCR should aslo go to the TV. You would then us the remote for your TV to switch between Video sources (Video 1 or Video 2 or whatever they're named on your TV).

It took me a while to find the actual post that had the details in it. :rolleyes1

So a single cable coming from the wall going into the HD box. Then a single cable coming from the HD box going into the TV.

But then you say there is a cable in the VCR. So both ends of the same cable are plugged into the In and Out of the VCR? Yep, that would be a problem.

There is probably only one place for the single cable coming from the HD box (which currently has a cable going to the TV). But there should be some other kinds of outlets. Specifically RCA jacks. These are the kind of jacks that are normally on the back of a CD or cassette tape player. There would be three of these, red, white, and yellow. There should the same kind of plugs on the VCR. If so, then you need to get a cable to connect the two to each other.

Then you will also need to get a cable from the VCR to the TV. Probably the same kind of three cables.

(and a side note, instead of the yellow plug, there is also an S video plug which could be used)

Hopefully I understood what you said you had. Let me know what you find.

I'll look tomorrow. Since it's HD, there are a gazillion colored cables. I'll have to turn everything around and trace them all out before I can tell you.

Thanks alot!
