Cable/vcr question -- HELP!

Ever since the cable guy was here to install my HD box and fix my OnDemand, I can't record on my VCR.

Apparently, I couldn't get OnDemand because the cable was running thru the VCR then to the cable box. He switched everything and showed me how to record now. Problem is, the way he showed me doesn't work and any other way I've tried also doesn't work.

I can't afford TIVO!

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm going thru Guiding Light withdrawals.

Don't MAKE me come out there and smack you around, woman! :lmao:

That would be a high definition cable box -- compatible with the new-fangled high definition television sets. I doubt they work with rabbit ears. :teeth:

Need a little more information...

My guess is the cable comes from the wall, and then goes to your HD Box. Then the question is, what cables are coming from the HD Box, and where are they going. I am thinking it is one of two choices.
1. There is only one set of cables coming from the HD Box, and they go to the VCR. Then there is a set of cables coming from the VCR to the TV.
2. There are two sets of cables coming from the HD Box, one set going to the TV, and the other set going to the VCR.

If it is the first option, and the TV is getting the signal, then the VCR should be able to record.
If it is the second option, then there should be another set of cables coming out of the VCR and going into another set of inputs on the TV. If this is the case, then you have to switch the input on the TV to show the VCR. If you have not done this, it could be that the VCR is recording, but you are just not seeing it on the TV.

There are other combinations on how they are connected.

So, what are the cables coming from and going to, and what does work, and what doesn't work (such as can you play a VCR tape, but you just can't record)?

And if any of the above is obvious and I am being too simplistic, sorry about that. I am just not sure how much you know.

Okay, I can't actually check the connections until morning when it's lighter in here -- my living room is pretty dim.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I never even thought to try to PLAY a tape. LOL

I did everything to try to view what SHOULD've recorded (it taped...just shows nothing but blue screen and/or static) -- the combos I used to have to use -- switched it to TV, AV, Component 1, etc. Nothing seemed to work.

I'm sure it's something simple.

You were not overly simplistic. I do, however, know how to program the VCR (well, I did, anyway!), work the remotes, the DVD, AND set the time...so I'm not tooooo bad. The cable guy told me I was a quick learner. I laughed at him.

I'll get back to you in the AM -- thanks for the advice.

Okay, CABLE IN seems to come from the wall to the cable box.

CABLE OUT seems to go from cable box to tv.

There is a wire that looks just like the CABLE OUT wire that is only hooked to the VCR/DVD (duh...i'm guessing THAT'S the problem). One end plugs into RF IN, the other plugs into RF OUT.

I see no spot for CABLE IN on the VCR/DVD.

Ummm, we're going to AC again in Jan or Feb.

You're supposed to forget what trouble we get into while there.

WE didn't get into any trouble.

Excuse me...not to be rude here, but can we get my tv/vcr/cable problem fixed here?

Apparently nobody knows how to fix it. :confused3

Not true! thegales was very helpful. of course he/she probably won't come back now that SOMEONE has hijacked the thread. Not pointing any fingers of course... :wave2:
