I have cable modem and pay $50. a month, Verizon just called me offering me there dsl for $30. a month. If they are close to the same speed I would be willing to make the switch. Of course Verizon told me it is even better/no line sharing with your neighbors. Any help??

Wow......$30 seems awfully cheap. Is that an introductory or a permanent price?????

Cable is often a little faster than the entry level speeds of DSL (you can purchase faster DSL for more $/month). If there is high cable broadband usage by your neighbors, it DOES slow down your speed somewhat. Allegedly, DSL is harder to hack than Cable, but I'd still use a firewall with both!!!!!

Good Luck,

Check out www.broadbandreports.com and look at the customer reviews for the services in your area. The reviews and forums on that site are great and really helpful. (Check out some of their tools for tweaking your connection/speed and security too, they are really helpful w/ either DSL or cable.)
I've had both and in my area cable is definitely better but in some places DSL is. (Either way, I'd never go back to dial-up!) Hope this helps!

for seven months, plus one free month trial. Goes up to $39. after that. Still cheaper then cable. I agreed to the free trial. I will put it on one computer in the house and see which one is faster. They are also giving $25. in AmEx on line shopping dollars.

I'd check your prices. VERIZON has a similiar promotion going on in Boston. 1st month FREE if you book it online. Then 6 months at $29.99.........then $49.99/month thereafter. These rates are for 768 kbps (download). If you want a faster speed of 1.5Mbps, you would pay $59.99/month after the trial period.

Good Luck,

We had a cable modem for about five years. We switched over to DSL about a year ago. When we first had the cable modem we loved it. But, through the years more and more subscribers started using the service and the speed slowed down. It would go down quite a bit. We even lost service for about 5 days at one point. Also, between the hours of about 5pm - 9pm it would slow down quite a bit. Since, we have had DSL we have experienced no down time or a slow down in the speed.

My DSL costs $5 more a month than dial/up..that was a tough decision..:o
Phone Bill + internet $54.95 a month..

Go to www.DSLReports.com and check the reviews in your area. Verizon is known for dropped connections and bad service where I live.

This site also let you test the speed connections. So, look for your area, and you can see how Verizon is measuring up.

Cable Modem normally has faster connections than DSL, but it really depends on your area.
