A few weeks ago, I spilled soda in my modem  . Yeah, I know...ditzy move.

I got a new modem and a few days later the first two ports of my microsoft router went bad. I think.

After many calls with microsoft, changing IP addresses and other things, I got my Internet back.

Now for the last week, I am being booted off the Internet constantly. I have been told it's totally unrelated to the virus (which I didn't have).

I've been told my router's bad again--maybe.

I've changed the address of the modem and connected directly to the computer...still being booted off.

I called again (I now have comcast on speed dial  ). They told me I don't have enough signal for three TVs and splitters and Internet. I now have the TV cable running directly into my modem. I can't get my DD's computer hooked up through the router and I have no TV in my room.

I have been told so many things by Comcast, Microsoft and have made so many changes to my computer, I'm afraid it's going to blow up!

I'm ready to go back to dialup

That's frustrating. And hard to diagnose. It could well be your router. It could also be that you don't have enough signal -- not sure how many things you are trying to run off of one cable line. If you have too many splitters, your signal will weaken which could also be the cause of your being booted. Have you tried a digital amplifier? You can pick one up at any Radio Shack.

I wish you luck!

My DH said it may be an electrical problem in your house that is causing a build up of resistance in your splitter.

Or not enough signal.

Even though you have new modem, when you spilled soda on your old modem it could have caused some electrical issue. When you have an electrical problem this may result in you being booted off the internet-because the power supply to the modem may be spotty.

You know, something all along has been telling me there is a problem with the cable/splitter itself.

I just reconnected the router and still have the TV cable hooked right into the modem, bypassing the splitter.

I guess we'll see if/how long I stay connected.

Thank you both for your help.

You may also wanna check for that worm virus. My PC got infected, but I never had the symptoms of rebooting the PC. Instead, I was booted off the internet every once in a while. I checked for Blaster worm virus, and sure enough I got it.

Go to Symantec.com and they have a free tool to check and remove it for you.

Thanks adamak, I have gone through and checked, but the virus isn't in my computer.

I was thinking that was part of the equation, but I could never get online long enough to find out what to do. I've run through my files and the worm isn't there.
