cable bill jumped $50

when i negotiated my rate, i called up with every intention of cancelling. I was sure that the csr who initially took the call had no power. The 'cancel' rep wouldnt let me off the hook, wouldnt let me cancel..however, that was about a year ago, now..

I have Time-Warner. I have basic cable and the 3Mbps RoadRunner internet for about $50, and for phone I have Vonage, which is about $30 per month with taxes (unlimited local and long distance), so for about $80 I have basic cable, phone and internet. If you have a higher level of cable service or internet speed, your price will be more, but the 3Mbps is sufficient to handle my internet nees, and works well with the VoIP phone service. None of these are limited time special pricing.

While satellite systems will be cheaper for TV programming, their internet connection is awful AND very expensive. In our area there is no DSL or other decent internet available.

Thanks for the info! I will let my DH know. I love Time Warner. We have not had any problems and I hate to leave, but money is money.

Wow! Thanks for the help everyone! I will have DH call them back today and ask for the retention dept. Either that or have him hit the cancel button.
I don't really want to go looking for another deal but if we have to, we will.
We were looking at Verizon last night. If you have Direct TV how do you feel about it?

Do you have AT&T U-Verse in your area? We don't have the phone bundled in, but it's a reasonable deal and they often have cash back rebates. We got $250 for setting up cable and internet through them. Also, there is no contract, so no introductory pricing or anything.

We also have TW and went through this back in March. I called to get another promotional rate and all they would offer me was $10 less per month by signing a 2 yr contract. I refused that and told them I might have to cancel because I can't afford for my bill to go up each year. The rep did not offer to send me to a retention person or anything. I was very disappointed. The problem is that they are the only cable company unless we want to go satellite and we get too much wind and bad weather in my area for that.
