Cable Beach- Nassau

I read a post that mentioned going to Cable Beach while docked in Nassau instead of doing an excursion. Can anyone tell me about it- like how do we get there and what is there to do? Any info would be great. Thanks.

It is my understanding that you can take a cab for about $20 or you can take a bus for $1 pp each way.
