My sister is planning on going with my nephews to WDW for the first time and since they are 5 in total she's thinking about staying at one of the cabins in Fort Wilderness. I was just wondering, how are the cabins? Are they nice and comfortable? Also, is the cabin area far from the main hotel and it's activities? And, is there any place nearby to buy supplies for cooking, etc.?

I have no experience in the cabins, but I do know that everything is easy to get to and the campground is a wonderful place for families! You can buy groceries on site, but there are also some grocery stores nearby with more options.

BTW, you may get better response if you post a new thread :goodvibes

I moved this to its own thread, so you would get more response. It would have gotten lost up in the FAQ thread. :)

We were there in October and LOVED LOVED our cabin!! Plenty of room for 4 adults and a 4 year old. We did rent a golf cart for the whole week, but you can get around the park on the busses. We sent two boxes down there from Ohio with our food inside, and they were waiting for us when we checked in. We just used the store for all of the refrigerator stuff. We will never stay anywhere else but the cabins~~~~~

I think if I am reading this line corectly, you are confusing Fort Wilderness with the Wilderness Lodge?

There is no "main hotel" at Fort Wilderness. It is a campground with campsites in some loops and cabins in other loops.

The only cooking supplies they need is food. All the pots, pans and utensils are already in the cabin.

If they have a car, they can easily drive to one of many stores right outside the resort.

If they don't have a car I suggest they do what the pp did. Ship the non-perishables ahead of time. There is some food for sale at the Trading Posts, like lunch meat, bread, eggs, milk cheese, hot dogs, ect. But for a higher price than one would pay at the grocery store.;)

There is a grill outside that uses charcoal if you want to grill. You can also ask mousekeeping for a fry pan if you need one. mrzrich's list is complete.

coffee, filters and sweeteners are now included as well. Also frying pans.

We just packed some coffee & filters thinking neither were provided.

How much coffee is in the cabin? Is it replaced daily?

There were 6 or 8 packs when we were there in early December...its those prepackaged "coffee sealed inside the filter" thingys...open the package take out the little pouch of coffee, drop it in the coffee maker and add the water...the packages also have creamer, sugar, and sweet'n'low packets, stirers, and i think a napkin or two. We never ran out...so they apparently replenish then when needed. As a matter of fact, now that Im thinking of it, one of the kitchen drawers had back-up stock of detergent for the dishwasher, coffee packs and extra sponges...so your set to go.
