Cabins/Partial Hook-up Sites/Transportation

Hello,

My DH's family is thinking of a Grand Gathering at Fort Wilderness. We usually had 5th wheel trailers for our last large gathering (2006) but things have changed and they are now thinking of taking a Pop-Up trailer and renting a Cabin for 16 people total (6 people at the cabin, and 10 people at the campsite). My questions are as follows:

1. Are there cabins and partial hook up sites very close together? They wish to use the cabin as a central location for all meals to be cooked at.

2. What is the transportation to the parks like? I remember taking a boat, that also picked up at Wilderness Lodge to MK but I don't have a clear memory of the other parks. Is there dedicated buses to the other parks once you get to the Settlement Post or do you have to go to the TTC and transfer to a park bus there?

3. I remember limitations to vehicles on the campsites. We will have a vehicle for each campsite but can we also have a motorcycle on both sites too? As well, if there was a third vehicle is there a place to park it outside of the actual campsites that is fairly safe?

Thank you,

Transportation to the parks consists of...
Boat to MK. There is usually a dedicated boat that only goes back and for MK-FW. It leaves from the "green flag" side of the dock (left side). There is also a boat that runs between FW-WL-Contemp, but it doesn't go to MK. When returning from MK, make sure you get on the FW boat (right side of dock).

Buses go to the rest of the parks leaving from the Outpost area.

You're allowed one vehicle and one golf cart per campsite/cabin. Not sure if it would be a problem to have a motorcycle and a car. I'm guessing it would be ok, but don't know for sure.

Extra cars can park in the overflow lot out by the Outpost. Make sure you get enough parking passes when you check in for all your vehicles. FW gets pretty cranky when people leave vehicles in overflow overnight without a pass.

Loop 2000 is a partial hookup camp site that backs up to 2100 which is a cabin site but there is a stream that runs between them. 2100 also backs up to a full camp site 1100 (no stream). some cabins and camp sites backup to each other cabins 2120,2122,2124,2126,2128,2130,2132,and 2134. There is also a path into that 1100 loop between cabin 2134 and 2135. You could request a cabin in 2100 and a campsite in 1100 and ask that they be linked together but it is only a request and you might not get them. Good luck.

Thank you very much for your response. When we went last January 2006, February, the boat went to Wilderness Lodge too. That will be nice to have a dedicated boat to MK.

It is also good to know that the other buses go right to the parks from the Outpost, I seemed to remember going a lot to the TTC then going to the parks, but that possibly was from the trip before the last one.

Thanks for informing me about the overflow parking area. We will have to look into obtaining a pass for any extra vehicles. I will also ask about the motorcycles too.

I appreciate your detailed response.

Wow!!! Thank you for the exact camp site numbers. Of course, we can only request, but that should make it easier for them than just a general request of being "close" to each other.

I remember from our last trip, some loops seem pretty large and some seem far apart. I'm looking at a map now to see the loops you are talking about. It is great to see a visual.

Thank you again for the information.

as cheap as partial sites are, i would suggest getting two rather than one. Of course if this is peak season it could make a major difference.

they'll ask at check in how many vehicles you have.

Way back in the day, the boat used to pick up at both, now they each have their own.
Also sometime 2007ish the stopped the bus going from the lodge to the TTC. The orange route started at the outpost, went straight up the middle, to the settlement. Then to wilderness lodge, and on to the TTC, before turning around and going back.
Now the orange route goes from the outpost, through the cabin loop, up the middle to the settlement. On to the lodge, then turns back around from there.

So things have changed here and there.

Thank you very much for your response. It is good to know that they have changed the transportation, as that was my biggest pet peeve.

I will pass on the information, about the two partial sites, as that would be much cheaper.

Thank you,
