We just got back from 6 Wonderful days at Fort Wilderness!!! We were selected to be the family of the week. We were moved to Cabin 120!!! It was wonderful....We were so close to the Marina and everything!!! We got personalized Pictures from Chip and Dale!! It as great....Did anyone know that they had these cabins....After all the research I did.....I did not.....Got an questions...just let them rip!!!!!

We are going in December 2005 and I've considered staying in cabins (DH, DW, DD-10, DD-6, DS-1). Last time we stayed at POR and had a great time but want to try something new. I think the cabins might give us a little more room to spread out with our one-year-old but am a little concerned about proximity to park, transportation, etc. I'd love to hear from you. Right now I'm battling between several possibilities. :rolleyes1

Hi :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc Happy to hear you had a good stay at Ft. Wilderness!! Our family of 6 (me-DW, DH, DD16, DS12, DS9, DD2) will be staying in a cabin at Ft. Wilderness from March 22-29th. (over Easter...yes, I know we're crazy!! :rotfl: )

Just a few questions for you :flower:

1. How is the bus system? Does it take a long time to get to the parks? We have a PS for the princess storybook breakfast at 8:30 on Saturday....is that doable?

2. How is the campfire program? Is there plenty of room for the kids to spread out and roast marshmallows?

3. How expensive is the food at the Trails End stores? Would we be smart to hire one of the grocery delivery services?

4. What is a good loop to be in for the cabins? (aside from the awesome family of the week one, of course! :Pinkbounc

It looks like such a fun place!! I'm glad you had the opportunity to be family of the week....how fun!!

I'm looking foward to hearing more about your trip. The more details, the better

I have stayed at FW many times, usually in a tent (all boys and they love to camp)... I can answer a couple of your questions:

1. How is the bus system? Does it take a long time to get to the parks? We have a PS for the princess storybook breakfast at 8:30 on Saturday....is that doable?

The bus system is reliable but for an early morning breakfast I would not take any chances and drive. When going to the MK take the boat.

3. How expensive is the food at the Trails End stores? Would we be smart to hire one of the grocery delivery services?

Grocery delivery service or drive to the store. The prices are not sky high but typical of a resort, inflated. There is also not a lot of selection.

Have a great time. Don't forget to take the Hayride.

We're mulling over the cabins also. How do you get to be family of the week? I've never heard of that, or that cabin 120. What kind of perks did it have?

Waaaay back in the summer of 1977 our family and another family drove down to WDW (from NY) with our pop-up campers. Back then, Fort Wilderness was smaller than it is now, there were no cabins, I don't believe. I think you could actually reserve a location back then. So we had side-by-side campsites in the 100 loop. It was GREAT! there were 8 kids, all between the ages of 8-17. Only MK opened then, Every morning, we would just zip down the hill hop on the boat and see our parents at the end of the day. The boys, would get on the monorail at MK and ride to the CR and POLY for the arcades. Ah, the memories! I of course am keeping the memories alive with my children...I"ve hooked them on Disney also!
