cabins at Wilderness

I am thinking of staying in one of the cabins at the campsite next summer (June). If you have stayed there, please tell me what you liked and what you did not like about your stay. I will have two 9 year olds and a 13 year old along.

I went with twins and one 4 years older too! We really loved the cabins. I really can't think of anything I didn't like. We had our car with us, and did end up driving to the parks some days rather than the bus system. It wasn't that we didn't like the busses, but the car was faster.

We loved the setup. The kids took the bedroom and everyone had their own bed. DH and I stayed on the murphey bed and were able to get up, shower and get breakfast on the table before we had to get the kids up.

Bathroom was nice...not campy or rustic at all! Nice corian counters. Spacious and lots of extra towels. The kitchen was well taken care of by housekeeping. The whole cabin was always tidy.

I also liked that it was free standing. With 3 kids, you know how loud a hotel room can get! Your are not connected to anyone. If the kids get really loud and rambucious, no one will be bothered but you!

I haven't stayed in the cabins, but I have stayed in the wilderness homes before they were all converted to cabins. I believe they have the same features, just a little different floor plan.
My family loved it. At the time, my 2 DDs were 4 and 8. We had a full kitchen, which allowed us to make breakfasts and lunches on some days. (which saved us money) We liked the fact that it had a separate bedroom and living room. That allowed for the kids (or whoever) to take naps in the bedroom, while not being disturbed. It allowed us to spread out alot more.
Even though the cabins are only about 10 feet apart, it felt like we were very secluded. That was very nice. I'm not the "outdoorsy" type of person, and was initially worried that they would be too "camplike". But, they were very nice. If we had not become DVC members, this is where we would always stay.

We loved the cabins! Enough room to relax, excellent kitchen (and mousekeeping even does the dishes!) Bathroom is nice, (mine at home are smaller) good water pressure, noisy Disney toilet. The campground is beautiful! So relaxing.

Although we have tried other Disney resorts, FTW is "home" for us. We LOVE the cabins. You may want to look in to renting a golf cart, though. The campground is pretty spread out. You will find LOTS of great info on the camping board here at the DIS.

We loved the cabins!! Were there Nov. 2002.

Think seriously about having a car. We used the transportation a couple of times and it seemed to take a really long time to get anywhere.

Also, the golf carts are a must do. They may seem a little pricey at first, but you have them for 24 hours, so they are a much better deal than renting a surrey bike, etc. They were my kids favorite part. (Even more than the pool!!) You cannot park a car anywhere in the campground(except at your cabin), but they do have parking for golfcarts. I wouldn't get one every day, but if you are planning to spend some time around the campground for a couple of days, they are really fun!!

One note, the bedroom does not have a TV.

The Murphy bed is very comfortable - not like a pull-out couch at all.

The campfire program is fun.

The pools are nothing special. No slides, etc., but still very nice.

It's a nice escape from the hubbub of the rest of the world, but it is still most definitely Disney.

Check out the "Camping at WDW" forum. They have tons of facts and reviews of the cabins.

We have stayed in the cabins twice. They are great...tons of room, full kitchen, large bathroom, large deck.

The second bedroom does have a tv in it now(didn't the first year).

Mousekeeping is awesome. We always have plenty of towels, they will even run the dishwasher for you. This past summer we got awesome towel animals.

Having the kitchen is perfect for us. Toss a waffle in the toaster and the kiddies can eat while I get my shower. Getting everyone ready in the morning and then off to breakfast takes up alot of time. In the summer we stock the fridge with drinks, especially water. I imagine in the winter it would we great to have breakfast in the cozy cabin.

We did not ever get a golf cart - too $$ and our family is too big. We used WDW transportation to MK and drove to the rest of the parks - easier with 2 in strollers.

The campfire sing-along is so much fun and watching a movie under the stars is such a wonderful feeling.

I am sure you will love the cabins.

We were there is June of this year Loved it for our family of six. Had a game cube hooked up in the bedroom for the older boys. Liked having the kitchen. Kept the fridge stocked full of juice boxes and bottles of water. Good size bathroom and always had plenty of towels Loved the nice large shower.. There were a couple of days we did not have mousekeeping but they left a bag of towels anyway. Nice not to be so close to your neighbor. We had three boys 8, 6 and 2. The transporation was not the best but we still used it all the time and never moved our car except for a trip to the trading post. Hey, we were on vacation and in no big hurry to get anywhere. It is really nice and peaceful and you never know there is anyone around. We will try and rent a golf cart next time. It makes it a bit easier.
