Cabbing it between a rental home and the parks

I'm thinking of renting a vacation home as opposed to staying in a hotel room for our trip in August. We will not be renting a car.
I was wondering if anyone has ever stayed in a vacation home and taken cabs to the Disney Parks and back. It looks like many homes are located a few miles away.
Thanks in advance. :)

Cab fare in Orlando is really expensive. Add to that the fact that while most offsite homes claim to be just a few miles from WDW, they're actually quite a bit farther from the parks, and it's going to end up being a very expensive trip.

You could probably count on averaging a minimum of $60 per day on cab rides.

I wouldn't stay offsite without renting a car.

:) It is usually $18 minimum to travel from resort to park on property-DH and I stay at AKV so it is sometimes $20+tip. Being that it will be August you may want more trips back to the home than you anticipated. I would definitely rent a car as the PP suggests.

you can afford to rent a vacation home but not a rental car?

The other issue is that you will need to call a cab each time you leave your home. So expect a 15+minute wait each and every time. -- Suzanne

They didn't say anything about 'affording' a rental car.

Thanks. It's not a price issue. We just aren't drivers.:)

I was half-asleep when I posted my question. I was also worried about the convenience factor. Like I'm thinking the cab driver may not be able to pull right up to the home and there would be a central location at the complex where cabs are allowed to pick up passengers. But that may not be any different than walking to the bus stop at a resort:eek: It all depends on how far the particular home is from the central point of operation.

I have only begun to research the vacation home option so I still have quite a bit of research to do.
I began to look up fares this morning on the Mears taxi fare estimator. This can help me to estimate my travel expenses. It's more costly than what I had anticipated but nothing that will break the bank. We would need to travel to Disney on 4 days and to Sea World one day. Most of the homes we are interested in are a lot closer to Disney so we would have to shell out the big bucks to go to SW.

I have not committed to an off-site stay yet because I'm figuring in ALL the costs and benefits vs the convenience of staying on-site. It seems that transportation without the Disney shuttle buses is expensive any way you slice it.

Thanks for the replies!;)

Rental cars aren't normally that expensive. It would not cost you any more than taking a taxi and maybe even less. And driving around Disney is very easy even if you aren't used to driving alot.

I am someone who gets lost quite a bit when I drive somewhere unfamiliar and the signage at Disney is great as long as you know when it says turn right to get someplace they mean at the very next right turn. LOL And if you miss that turn, there's always another one nearby to take that will get you where you are going.

Good luck figuring it all out.

If you don't drive, then also you may want to look into the Downtown Disney resorts. They have a bus system, so you won't need to worry about waiting for a cab (well, you may wait for a bus!) and then just do the cab from your hotel and Sea World.

You can either take a cab or book a town car transfer from the airport then.

Cabs are easy and often done. Have done it myself from rental homes. Cabs are quick and plentiful, but beware that if you stay for fireworks and leave with the masses you may find no cabs left if u at back on line and have to wait for one. Lots of folks use the cab option. $20-25 per way from a close resort is in the ballpark.
