Cabanas dinner

Since the MDR menus have not changed, then Cabanas will not have changed. While there may be some variation as to which items from the MDR will be available on any given night, it will still be the same old stuff.

In our experience, the menu had some things from the MDRs but also a few items I did not recognize from those menus. We've only had dinner at Cabanas on the Fantasy though.

Interesting question, tnkrbell. I hope someone who has sailed recently has an answer for you.

At dinner, Cabanas is a sit down meal like the MDR. You are served by a waiter in training. It is open seating so you don't have to go at a certain time. No, it is not a buffet. Cabanas is open for dinner every night except the first and last nights of the cruise.

Cabana's is not available for evening meal on the first and last night of the cruise. It is a seated meal, a server will present you with a menu from which you will order. The menu will be items available in the dining rooms that night with the addition of a steak or two - usually NY Strip and another option. You can go anytime during their service from, I believe, 6:00pm to 8:00pm. You are not able to make a reservation for this service, you just show up. The atmosphere is generally much quieter than the main dining rooms.
The servers there are those who are "in training". We have had good, attentive service when dining there. Others have posted about not so great service. One night the server suggested I try the Truffle pursiettes with my NY Strip...she was spot on, they were absolutely delicious together.

Can you order off menu here like you can in the MDRs? I am specifically thinking of the kid's menu items in an adult portion, such as a chicken strips, plain hamburger, etc.

We dined in Cabanas on the Magic for one of our five nights aboard...the menu selection was slightly reduced from what is available in the MDRs, but service was much faster...one note, Cabanas is closed for dinner on the last night to allow you to get the full MDR experience on your last night.

I found the service to be good and much more efficient than the main dining rooms.
Me, too! The meal we had in Cabanas is one of our favorites. It was a very pleasant experience and I am looking forward to it again on our upcoming cruise. The waiter was one of the best we have ever had on DCL!

I agree. We've had some not so great servers in the MDR on the last two cruises, so to Cabanas we go. The service, we've found to be EXCELLENT! There IS a limited menu, but the steaks are always amazing. It's quiet and cozy. More intimate. Every night we ate there, there were officers eating as well. Tables of them. They were also always present walking around it seemed.

When you get there, they ask for your stateroom number. They put it in the computer to notify the MDR that you will not be eating at your regular time.

These servers in training are trying VERY hard to make it out into the MDRs. They are regular Cabana staff working their way up. They seem to care much more about your service and experience than most. I highly recommend trying it at least one night. Just want to note that there were very few children there too.

For the record... we ate there during 3 Fantasy sailings. Only that ship.

Do you tip the servers in Cabanas?
We did not tip. I thought they asked for your cabin # so they would know where the tip should go (and not to the MDR server for that night). I could be wrong about that.

But, the next night in the MDR, the servers wanted to know what happened to us the previous night, so I don't think they were notified.
