Cabana Massage

Hi folks

Is it worth doing this? Someone I know who loves massages and spa's etc mentioned that she didn't think it was worth me doing as I may not enjoy it as she said that the sand can sometimes be a problem and the massage can be scratcy - yet I'm sure I've read good things about them on these boards.

If you've had a cabana massage please can you let me know what you thought.

Yes, I've had them and they were fantastic. Hubby and I did a couples last time. Scratchy? Not my experience. The only problem I had was one of them was in late September, and the heat was oppressive to say the least. But, it was a wonderful way to deal with the heat. Is it worth it? That is really up to you. I've had better massages for less $$, but it is a different experience, in the open air. One thing to note: The cabanas aren't always completely opened. They are like shacks with laege windows, and the wall facing the water does open fully. It's never been open during my sessions. Maybe I should have asked, but it wasn't a problem once they started. Would I recommend them? I think everyone should try things once unless you're bugeting your $$ and this would be a maybe indulgence. Then I'd skip it and do one of my must do's.

If you haven't had a massage before or are not a huge massage fan I'd agree with tlgoblue - call it a maybe and spend the money on something else.

That being said...I had one and it was heaven on earth! They were using Sunny Shades at the time, I think the cabanas were actually being rebuilt from a hurricane! My ocean side was open and it was incredible to feel the warmth & breeze, hear the water lapping the shore, and have a decent massage.

I wasn't looking for a deep muscle massage this time, although she probably would have worked deeper if I'd asked. This was more a relaxation treatment. My MT at home knows when to work the muscles deep and when to just send me off to la la land!

No problem with sand, but DO pay attention to what they say about drinking plenty of water (not soda or alcohol) and using sunscreen. The oils/lotions used can make you a bit more sensitive to the tropical sun.

I couldn't find any info on the Cabana Massage at CC.

Our last cruise was in 2000 and as I recall the single was $100 plus tip. Not sure if that has gone up since. Haven't done the couples although we're talking about it for our upcoming trip.

Memory again here:

Single was 114 (9/'01) and couples was 225 I think. I know it was 290 including tip and 1 product . Each person for the couples pays thier own MT, so I just added up what DH showed on his charge and mine, plus the one product.

DH and I had never had a massage before and the couples cabana massage with facial was our first. It was really great, but expensive. If I recall correctly, our total came to about $280 with tip. It was a bit cold, so they didn't keep the 'window' open because of the wind. It was really great to lay there and listen to the ocean. I don't know that we'd ever do it again, but we don't regret it. Maybe we'll try an on-ship massage or other treatment instead.
