Just talked with front desk at residence Inn and their shuttle doesn't take you over to the port until 11:30. We won't want to wait that long. Wondering if they have much for cabs and what it would cost....there are seven of us so do they have minivan cabs at all or just need to take two cabs? Wondered about contacting Happy Limo and seeing how much more they'd charge if they came and picked us up after they did a drop off for someone else? We are using them to get down there the day before.

Is your PAT prior to 11:30 am? If not, all you'll end up doing is waiting in the terminal instead of at the hotel. Even if your PAT is prior to 11:30, the actual boarding starts around that time or a little later with concierge and Platinum first so if you don't fit either of those categories, you probably won't be on the ship any earlier than if you took the shuttle at 11:30 am.

But we signed up for 10:30 time. I know that's not knew we NEED to be there but I feel like it's when we should try and be there otherwise what's the point of picking PATs?

The point???

The fire marshal sets the number of people who can be inside the building, so to not overcapacity the PAT was added so people are not waiting in the hot Florida sun unnecessarily.

Your finding is normal condition for the RI, so your option would be two taxis, as even a minivan would hold 7, but not 7 and their luggage. We will turn in a Hertz car that morning (staying at the RI) so not tied to the hotel shuttle.

I would search for a provider, I'm sure there would be a provider to move 7 + luggage for a fee, surely not the first time question was asked...

Not sure how I am to take this response. I guess that was the whole point of my post. I don't want to just wait for the 11:30 shuttle time BECAUSE I am supposed to be there between 10:30-10:45. I know why they have the PATs. Showing up later in the morning puts them in the position of having too many people at the wrong time and causing delays and such. I was looking for people with experience on using a cab from Port Canaveral. I wanted to know how easy it is to get one, should I make arrangements prior to the morning we are sailing, and if they have cabs that hold 7 passengers (i.e., a van). Perhaps I was not clear in my initial question.

Last time we cabbed it to/from the Residence Inn it was about $12 each way

Call these guys and tell them your situation. They told me to call them when I get to our hotel the day before our cruise and they will be there to pick us up the next morning at the time we request. I was told
We can call them The day our ship comes back and they will transport us back to the hotel.

Exactly what I was looking for....thanks SO much. I called and it's all set!!!!

Not to quibble, but no I did not ask that. I said, we picked the 10:30 PAT. I said what would be the point in picking a PAT if you didn't intend to use the time you selected to show up.
Some people pick early PATs so that they will have a low boarding number, and a better chance that their number has already been called by the time they check in. So there's no wait to board, once checked in.

One other thing I'll note. There were some changes at Port Canaveral, and public transportation options (shuttles, taxis, private cars, etc) cannot enter the port/terminal area until 11:00, from what I've read.
