cab costs around WDW /reliable companies

We have rented a car for 5 days of our trip from the enterprise off property (we are using ME otherwise; if we rented a car big enough for 5 and luggage we'd need a much bigger one). It is costing us $260. My reason for having a car is I like to be at the parks at rope drop. We get the big rides out of the way and take it easy the rest of the day.

What would it cost us, instead of renting a car, if we took a cab to, say, DHS and TL first thing in the mornings? That way we could be at open, but save that rental car money. I'm sure the bus system would be fine for AK and Epcot. I'm curious as to how this would work. Are there companies recommended by WDW? Can we call the night before and say "pick us up at the POR check in at 7:30 tomorrow morning"?

I know this would be a cost savings, but just wondering what the average cab ride from point A to point B costs.

There is only one cab company allowed to pick up on property. Our experience was about between $15 to $20 for most rides. They are often waiting outside the resorts but you can call down and have them call one for you if not. I usually call down about 15 minutes before we need them to make sure and have had good results.

Thanks! I think this would be a big savings for us. We would take the busses back to POR. We don't mind the bus system, but if I am in a hurry to get to a park and busses don't come, I get stressed!
It's Mears on property, right? And they don't charge the $14 parking fee?

Sometimes they do charge you the parking fee, sometimes they don't. It's more likely to happen in the morning.

We never had a problem getting to the park well before rope drop when taking the bus.

Can 4 people ride in the cabs (plus driver)? Assume $20 fare. What would be a normal tip? The last cab that I was in was at WDW in 2007 and I don't remember what we paid.

It's against the dis guidelines to discuss tipping. Just Google "standard cab tip."

Well, we have had problems getting to the park well before rope drop. We've been on the first bus and gotten there as the opening ceremony is ended or has already ended. I'd rather not sit and stew at a bus stop wishing I'd called a cab.
10% over the fare is a good tip.

Just be sure to ask where in the parks the cab can drop you off - for example, cabs aren't allowed near the gates at MK - only at the TTC. So once you're dropped off there you have to fight the masses & walk to the monorail, wait for the monorail, ride the monorail & then walk to the MK gates. In Epcot they drop you off out by the offsite resort busses (beyond the Disney transportation) - so you still have to walk with the crowds getting off the Disney transportation to the gates. Unless you plan on going really early you still have crowds of people to deal with. I have no idea where cas drop off at DHS or AK but I'm assuming they can't just pull up close to the gates, those areas are reserved for Disney transportation & parking lot trams.

Anyone know where a cab would drop you off at typhoon lagoon? Last year when we had a car we were one of the first families there, which worked out great. This was Easter Sunday--which is when we are going this year. I would rather get there early and wait a while. I can figure out how early to go if I know where we get dropped off.

Checker cabs should NEVER charge the parking fee. They have a pass to get thru the gate. Just make sure it is a Mears Checker cab as they are the contracted company with Disney.

A cab at TL will drop you right at the front entry gate. A mere few steps to the enterance
