Is it worth joining the CAA to get the room and ticket discounts at WDW?

Can you use it for your car use as well?

I think you would have to do a cost comparison as to what you would save with WDW room reservations as opposed to what you are spending.

Let's say you go once this year and a CAA membership is $80 or so:
Scenario 1: You book 5 nights at a Value resort, you'll save about $15/night, savings roughly $75.00 (Varies by season, Value 15-20% off rack rate and when rack is $80-$100...)

Scenario 2: You book 5 nights at a Moderate resort, you'll save about $30/night in Value season, so $150.00 savings.

I think... tmli help me with this... You might be able to purchase a CAA membership exclusively for hotel discounts?

I guess I should have said that yes we could use it for our vehicles as well. We never have because of the manufacturers road side assistance plans.

I am really just curious as to if it will give you a better discount than anything you might find otherwise.

We are thinking about this as well, we already have a membership with CAA. I was curious if anyone booked POFQ thru CAA, online it only has CBR and CSR as the moderates. We are really leaning towards POFQ and would book thru our TA again if we could not get it thru CAA. Thanks Kat

You are right tonedef...in your example it woud pay off. ALso we have special package feature/prices at times that make it worth it. While we do sell just tickets without room, they aren't in my opinion better priced than anywhere else (except now when they are 2005 prices). You will almost always get better ticket prices on other attractions such as Seaworld, busch and universal.

Tonedef is also right in that there is a membership that does not include any road service calls. It is called ala carte and will allow you to use all other feature/benefits of the club. It is around 32. The basic membership is 64. and the plus is 99.51.

Digskat, you could just have a caa ta call and book the caa rate for you at pofq. If you are talking about caa's online site it leaves alot to be desired!!! Let's just call it a work in progress.

I bought my vacation package through CAA and liked the fact that they had a direct flight with Air Canada which is not easy to get if you book yourself :confused3 but now my direct has been cancelled and flight is 2 hours longer going and 6 hours longer coming home. We chose Air Canada and paid at least $700 more for the direct but they do not compensate or refund. :confused3

The airlines at their discretion can change/cancel flights...it sucks but unfortunately nothing you or your ta can do.

yes it does really suck.....what a way to start a vacation and yes I realize TA can not stand behind the product they are selling but I think they should emphasize the airline policy when another carrier is the better deal and directs are not worth the risk

Thanks I'll do that. Do you guys find a significant difference then booking thru Disney directly or thru a reg TA? Thanks Kat

Yes, yes, yes!!!

We booked our February trip (POR) via CAA. Just stopped by our local CAA counter. We saved close to $250.

And as we're driving to Florida, we also had a Trip Kit prepared (we always do when planning a trip), bought travel cheques, and obtain a CAA parking pass for WDW in case we decide to drive to the parks.

Can you call WDW Reservations direct and apply a CAA discount to a room-only booking?

Yes you can ask for a CAA discount thru WDW reservations.

I sugest that you call wdw direct and ask for the CAA (or AAA) discount becuase I got a better deal than going thru the CAA TA. BUt they might be able to do better on packages etc...I don't know.

I also saved on the tickets and a few other things that made one year worth while anyway.

Just my expereince.

I just called and after a bit of searching and checking with her manager the agent managed to find the discount. She had to cancel my online booking and rebook - original price $172.84/night POR waterview room - new price $138.26/night! I'll take it! That savings paid for my CAA plus membership so everything else CAA helps me out with is gravy!
If you ask for a CAA discount and they tell you it is not available - persist! or call back and you'll have another agent help you out.

mickey who? was it CAA you called or WDW? Thanks Kathy
PS was it $138 american or canadian?

I called WDW (after booking it online the night before) and the savings were US$! It was the WDW agent that had a hard time finding a discount - but I knew it was there - I've read about the room-only AAA discount in so many guides and on this board - so I knew to persist and she would find it eventually.

We just booked our room-only reservation at Pop Century. We saved $15 USD/night X 10 nights = $150 (regular season) with the CAA discount. We will also get the FREE maps before we go too. BUT, most importantly..... When i discovered my tire was flat wednesday morning and there was a fresh blanket of snow on the ground, I called CAA and they came and changed my tire in 15 minutes!!!! Well worth $80/year!

This is a great example of why I will only fly out of a Canadian port as a last resort. Had this scenario played out in BUF, unfortunately your flight situation would still be the same but at least you didn't pay a premium cost for the tickets.
How about booking through AAA
