Trying to book a nice place for last three days of our vacation, and saw both the Cypress Pointe Resort and Cypress Pointe Grand Villas on HotelKingdom.com. C.P. Resort has 2 bdrms for $63.99, while the C.P. Grand Villas have 1 bdrms for $64.13. Are the Grand Villas that much nicer, or should I go for the extra space? We're a family of four (two boys 7 and 9). Thanks for any input!

I know there are experts around here, but I would go for the 2 BR. If I remember correctly, the older section has been renovated fairly recently.

Going from what I remember when we rented a 3 BR in the GV section (2 BR + 1 BR), the 1 bedroom is the lock off part of the 2 bedrooms. It has a small living area with table for 4 and a kitchen. I assume the sofa is a bed but we didn't look. The bedroom has a queen bed and the bathroom is part of the room. It has 2 sinks, a soaking tub and a shower. The toilet is in its own room with a door.

There is a small screened patio off the bedroom.

What you're missing - washer/dryer, TV in the living room, a second bedroom & bathroom

A 2 bedroom will be much larger.

The sunterra website has a virtual tour of the 1 bedroom. it's the new section (GV) although it doesn't specifiy. See if this link works - http://12.29.123.181/us/rs-l3virtual.aspx?resort=CPV select 1 br from the Available view pull down menu.

BTW, if you go to the sunterra resort and select CP at lake buena vista instead of CP GV the virtual tours are still of the grand villas, NOT the older section. :)

Edited to add - check out this site for a comparison of the features of each section

Gillian, thanks for the information and the links! :)

We stayed in the GV section of CP, in a 2 bedroom, which we thought was lovely. We also toured a two bedroom of CP, and while the furnishings were a little outdated, we also thought it was nice. I wouldn't hesitate to stay in Phase I if I needed to save a few bucks ($20 a night is a significant difference over 7 days!), and I would definately choose it over a 1 bedroom at CP GV. With 2 little kids, I need a washer and dryer!

Okay, I give up!! Where are you guys finding the virtual tour? :)

I followed the link from Gillian's post. I wasn't able to view the tour! I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I could select different things to view from the menu, but they never came up.

We are going to stay in the 2 bedroom grand villa Feb 4-7.

No doubt, LauraR, I would take the 2BR with the family of your size. For a family of four, the extra space would be my choice.

Thanks everyone for the nudge towards the C.P. Resort 2 bdrm, and thanks, Snoopy, for letting me know that they are nice also (if a little dated in decor!) I'm off the fence now, and definitely going with the 2 bdrm. I'm looking forward to spreading out!

Help!

We're going in April, and I just recently found this hotel. We love staying at the Crossroads area, so the location is right. It also seems like a great deal for a suite hotel. We stayed at the Summerfield LBV (now Staybridge Suites) and thought it was nice. (a couple blocks away from Cypress Pointe).

My questions...

1) How does it compare to places like Staybridge, Hawthorn, Homewood, etc. suites.

2) Where is it from the main Crossroads intersection...just curious.

3) They want like $40 per day for maid service???? How does that work? What if you just want new sheets every couple of days? Is there a vacuum in the room..or do you need to pay $40 to vacuum your room?

4) They have tennis, basketball, mini-golf,etc. Is this free? and do they have equipment you can use?

5) Confused about Cypress Point vs Cypress Pointe Villas. For a 2 bedroom one is $63, the other $88.

6) Do they have any type of reception each night, any free cont. bfast, etc...

7) What is the view like? I would likea room on the top floor..and I'm assuming theyall have balconies?? Are we looking at a parking lot..can you see DTD..a pond...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry...one more question. I checked out Orbitz, T'ocity, Expedia, etc. and they were all far more expensive than HotelKingdom. Am I missing something? Do I have to attend a meeting or take a tour? They list it as a condo...

i'm just doing univ. and wondering how far it is away? has anyone paid for the bus transfer? have two, 18 yr. olds who want to come and go as they please and can't be seen with the family.....also is there a Golden Coral (?) close? we got used to eating there last year,,any help would do....thanks

I couldn't get Gillian's link to work for me. (I have no idea why) My DH came home and helped me find a way to view the tours. He went to Sunterra's old site:

http://www.sunterra.com/virtualtour/index.asp

and then selected the resort from the drop down menu.

WIcruizer I can answer a few questions for you.

Q#2 Cross roads is 0.8 miles straight down HWY 535 from the resort according to my Streets and Trips program.

Q#3, If you want maid service you have to pay the extra fee, if you don't want it, you don't have to pay for it. I can hang my own towels and I might even make the bed to save that much! (no one will know if I don't make the bed.)

Q#5 Grand villas are newer, and more $$.

WIcruizer,

No, you do not have to attend a presentation. As for the price difference, could the others include the maid service? Like Trina said, I can clean after myself for $40 a night! I am a obsessive compulsive cleaner anyway, so I usually go behind the maids and re-clean.:D

Nightly rentals from all sources normally do include daily housekeeping service. Weekly rates (which are usually discounted further) do not - they only include housekeeping services for check-in/check-out.

I believe Hotel Kingdom is a wholesaler of hotel rooms. If so, they rent blocks of hotel rooms at a discounted price, then re-rent them to individuals in the public. If a wholesaler is unable to rent out all their rooms, they risk losing money. Depending upon their contracts with the hotels, they may or may not be able to receive any refund money, if they return vacant rooms to the hotels in the last month or so.

The other companies listed above may act as wholesalers or they may act as travel agents, receiving a commission for reserving each room. Each wholesaler determines their own profit margins and room rates. Travel services that work on a commission basis are compensated according to contract.

Yes there was a vacuum, I don't change my sheets more often than once a week at home, no free breakfast or reception but you have a fully equipped kitchen so that is pretty easy and there is a Winn Dixie right up the road--opposite direction from Crossroads. There are some ponds and such but we did look out on a parking lot. We were on the ground floor and had a screened in patio. Our room was in very clean condition and not dated enough that it would make me even hesitate to stay again.

There is a Golden Coral down the street past the Crossroads area and I4 on the left side--about a 5-10 minute drive depending on traffic.

The hotelkingdom rates are just a discounter rate and you only have to attend a presentation if it says so on the site--you will notice there are some that are like $20 a night and then will say something like "Click here to see if you are eligible for this special rate." We got CP through them for about $75 per night and I felt it was a great deal.

No way is slightly newer but much smaller worth it!

Cypress Pointe... 1) How does it compare to places like Staybridge, Hawthorn, Homewood, etc. suites.

C.P. offers better equipped rooms with fully supplied, full-size kitchens; nicer, heated resort pools & amenities, more activities but; but no daily housekeeping on weekly stays as you would have at the suite hotels. With a 2BR, you'd even have an inroom jacuzzi tub and stacked washer/dryer.

3) They want like $40 per day for maid service???? How does that work? What if you just want new sheets every couple of days? Is there a vacuum in the room..or do you need to pay $40 to vacuum your room?

$40 is for complete cleaning service, as if you were leaving and your guests were coming in to occupy the room after you. They clean the whole place, bathrooms, floors, run your dishwasher, wipe down the kitchen and dining table, change the bedding & towels, etc. In the utility closet of your condo, there is usually a broom, vacuum, iron & board, stacked washer/dryer. Everything you need for basic clean-up is there without additional paid services. Some resorts offer a towel exchange midweek. Most people don't change their sheets at home more than once a week so that service is normally part of weekly housekeeping, not daily, at a timeshare resort. It's a paid service. Call the resort for specific rates.

4) They have tennis, basketball, mini-golf,etc. Is this free? and do they have equipment you can use?

Don't know about the mini-golf. Resort mini-golf is usually pretty basic and pretty cheap, like $2/game or so. They usually have the other equipment for free check-out, but call to be sure.

6) Do they have any type of reception each night, any free cont. bfast, etc...

No. Most area resorts have one or two evenings with a cheap barbeque at the main pool area, $1 hot dogs, etc., espec. in prime season.

7) What is the view like? I would likea room on the top floor..and I'm assuming theyall have balconies??

Here's a Cypress Pointe resort map. The front entries of each unit is nearest a parking lot. The backs of each unit overlook the other side of each building. By looking at the map, you'll see that most units' balconies overlook a greenspace, pool area, pond or courtyard, with a few exceptions. They're lowrise buildings and I don't think you'd see DTD, since it's over a mile away.

i'm just doing univ. and wondering how far it is away?

10-15 minute drive.

have two, 18 yr. olds who want to come and go as they please and can't be seen with the family.....

Shuttle services are very limited, pre-scheduled (reserve space) and infrequent. If they must be without your car, they will likely miss the evening activities at the parks or they will need to pay for taxi services. Don't know what that costs.

of course close to the main pool (small kids) and is there a slide? also about the 3 bdrm. does it lock from theinside for a couple to have privacy? any preferences over balcony and screened in porch?... also it says you can walk to some stores is this true the map looks sooo big...thanks

When we stayed at the GV's we had a great view of the pool. My favorite part of the villa was the jacuzzi and the screened in balcony. We were in the Calypso Cay building - we were asked when we check in if we had preference on which floor we wanted and I chose top floor. Don't like hearing people over top of me all night long and it turned out to be a wise choice. We found this villa to be so quiet and peaceful (but keep in mind we live in the heart of the city where its rather loud!). Still, I couldn't get over how peaceful it was, I could have stayed another week and was so sad to leave!

As for the timeshare presentation, we booked through Hotel Kingdom and were not required to do a presentation. However, when we checked in they offered us $75 Disney dollars to do it, and I just couldn't turn it down. I had read somewhere on these boards that you are only committed to 90 minutes, and I figured we had 90 minutes for $75. It was pretty low, although the salesman is in to make a sale, but we didn't feel threatened or harrassed, as I have read about timeshare presentations before. I actually found it interesting (we had no experience with timeshare before), but we told the guy we would never make a decision like that without researching it extensively. He came back with a deal where we could think about it, we told him no. This went on a couple of times until I reminded him that we were now at 91 minutes and we weren't interested. So he brought us over our $75 disney dollars, and that was that! We went to O'hana's later that night and it paid for my family of 4 to have dinner. :)

I have seen mixed reviews of this resort, but I have nothing but good things to say about it. We loved the grounds, the location, and our villa was spotless - and I am notorious for being a neat freak. Yes, the furniture is a bit worn, as is the furniture in hotel rooms. People stay there all the time, its what we expect when we stay away from home (where our furniture is a bit worn too! :p ) They have a great "main" pool with a wonderful slide perfect for kids that are anywhere from about 5-10, which happen to be the ages of my kids. We had a ball and a couple of days we didn't even bother with the parks, just hung out at the resort. We never played the mini golf or basketball, but we did participate in a few contests by the pool (hula hoop and limbo contest) and one day they had a free bar-b-que there. We also liked that they had the latest movies to rent at a ridiculously low price of $18 - all the movies per week that you cared to rent.

I don't think you could go wrong with either Phase I or Grand Villas, but I'd pick GV if money was not an object.
