Should we bypass anything in AK - anything that you have an "I'd never do that again" vibe about?

It seems so big - we can only fit so many things in because we only have a half day there.

Thanks!

maybe one of the exploration trails...
Definitely do kilamanjaro safaris, then you see all the animals and don't necessarily have to do the trails.

Is there a better time of day to do the safari?

Definitely do the safari EARLY as possible (EMH day would be good). They feed them in the AM and they hide in the heat.

I would skip Primevil Whirl, long wait, short and only a so-so ride.

My least favorite attractions are "Pocahontas" and the "carnival rides" (Prime Evil Whirl is one) at Dinoland.

But there are those who like these.

This is like asking 32 people at B-R,
"What flavor ice cream should I avoid?"

That would be Rocky Road, not many people are into that. ;)

Thanks for the info - I was thinking the carnival type stuff might be a little lame.

I am traveling with my grandma and she wants to skip Ak but I want to ride EE and maybe Dinosaur. anything else we should hit? I think we should skip the safari b/c she has a bad foot and it's a long walk? Also how long do you think it will take us to do these two if we arrive about 15 min before opening and I am a single rider on EE? (We would like to rest before our evening in EPCOT)

HEY!!!

One person's "Rocky Road" is another's "Highway to Heaven"!

:goodvibes

The Safari is a ride through. Dinosaur is really fun, but very jolting. Especailly, when you're getting chased!!

Okay, I see what you mean.

By the way, I've never tried "Highway To Heaven". Are there peanuts in that too? (he, he) Would it be good in a cone? :)

O I know it's a ride but if I recall correctly it's at the opposite end of the pakr compared with EE like EE is in the bottom right of the map and safari is at the top left of the map, correct?????

Yes, the ride named "Dinosaur" is a very well-done major Disney attraction.

It should NOT be confused with the "carnival rides" (like Primevil Whirl and Triceratop Spin) that are in their own separate section ("Chester and Hester's Dinorama") in Dinoland.

A must do at AK that hasn't already been mentioned is the Festival of the Lion King. Fabulous show that you should really fit into your schedule!!!

Ooops, sorry. I thought that you were under the impression that the Safari was a walk through type - yes, I believe that Dinosaur & Safari are in opposite directions.

I just wanted to mention that while Dinosaur is an amazing ride, it is super bumpy. I love it, but one of my parents feels that you need a neck brace upon exit!

The Safari ride is a bit of walk but if your grandma is at all willing, get her a wheelchair or scooter! And if she won't do that then you should still go IMHO! AK is really worth seeing and as it gets more attractions is getting even better. The Safari is incredible, your grandma would love it. I have taken my elderly parents (70 and 81) and they still talk about it. My mom has Alzheimers but remembers that Safari ride from the trip. My parents are both in poor health and can't walk too well and wouldn't do the scooter or chair but they still managed fine at AK and I am so glad we took them. To ride the Safari, DH just went back, got the fastpasses and we meandered slowly back there. We just sat and rested, (there are places to stop and rest all over the park), watched some live entertainment along the way and just worked our way back. My parents also enjoyed the Festival of the Lion King tremendously.

If you arrive at the park at opening, you can do FOTLK and Safari pretty quickly. If you run back and get fastpasses for Safari (everybody rides that first so the line builds quickly) you could have her wait at the entrance to Camp Minnie Mickey where FOTLK is located. Then you come back to her and see the first show, then you can both ride both Safari afterwards. Then you can fastpass Dinosaur and EE (you can use your grandma's ticket so you can get two, although I think EE has single rider). You could have lunch with your grandma while you wait for your fastpasses to come up, then go ride and come back and get her and leave AK to go rest before Epcot. I would think you could do all of that and be out of AK by just after lunch time. AK has been both my parents and my husband's parents favorite park (along with Epcot). Another attraction they all enjoyed was the Flights of Wonder show. In my opinion, from my experience travelling with our elderly, disabled family members, MGM was the park they all enjoyed the least and the one we would skip if we went back with them.

Yes, I agree that Festival of the Lion King is amazing.

I am amazed that there is still so much of AK that we just haven't gotten too. This time I'd like to see so much more.

What about Camp Minnie Mickey - anyone been there?

Camp Minnie Mickey is just a tad further than FotLK. It basically just a character meet and greet place.

Is it based on a schedule of times, or are they there all day - rotating characters?

My alway's must do at AK: Safari, Jungle Trek (love the tigers and gorillas, great picture ops), FotLK and I'm sure EE will be added as well. I like Tough to be a Bug. We missed out on that last time. DS was to young. The dinosaur area is hit and miss with me. The only area I haven't done that I'd like to check out is Rafiki's Planet Watch. I'm not expecting much, but I haven't done it and I'll have time on the next trip. We also missed Kali Rapids. Kids to young and in-laws to old, but it is FUN!!

I was very impressed by the Birdss of Wonder show. Since it's a show, you are sitting down the whole time, so your grandmother should be ok.
Check the schedule to see which show suites your schedule best.
