If you are going to do laundry in your room at Board Walk Villas, please note - the new washers have a weird safety feature.

Once the washer has started, the lid locks down. You cannot open the lid during the wash cycle. You cannot open the lid immediately after the wash cycle ends. The lid does not unlock until a few minutes after the washer is done.

If you don't know this, and you force the lid to open, you will break the switch. The next person who tries to do laundry will not be able to get the washer to start.

I had to call Housekeeping/Maintenance, who sent an engineering person, who had to send an electrician. The electrician had a really hard time getting the broken switch out. The prior guest must have really forced that lid hard to get it to open.

The electrician said that this is happening frequently. He has to keep a large supply of switches on hand.

Thank you for posting this. I should have done so when I first noticed this feature last Dec. I called Maintenance, thinking that the lid was stuck. By the time they arrived it was un-stuck. There should be a note taped to the machines to warn people to wait a few minutes after the washer stops before trying to open them. I am not going to waste time trying to get this done. I wasted lots of time trying to get someone to put HE detergent in the vending machine in the laundry room to no avail.

Thanks for the info!!! Question about the BVW and I guess AKV washers do they take normal detergent or HE (high efficiency) detergent??? TIA!!

The in-room machines are regular. At least some of the resorts, including BWV, have HE machines in the laundry room.

I've had my washer for about 5 yrs and it had the same safety feature...not anymore though. It got very annoying, but it is a nice safety feature for little ones that may want to add something to the wash!
