It's my understanding that you can now walk from BWV to MGM. If true has anyone tried it? Is it a long trip. Waiting for the boat after Fantasmic, the only transportaion other than a car, is a super pain.

Yes, the paved, lighted pathway from BWV to MGM is now open. Our family used it often this past January. It's about a 10 - 15 minute walk, depending on how fast you walk and the location of your room. We found walking to be quicker than the boat even if a boat was departing at the same time we began walking. It's a great alternative, especially after Fantasmic.

I'm a pretty fast walker so it takes me less than 10 minutes to walk from BWV to MGM. I can almost beat a boat that leaves S/D at the same time I do. Getting on a boat at BW and having to stop at YC/BC then at S/D before going to MGM, you can have a leisurely stroll and still beat the boat. Very pleasant walkway. After Fantasmic, there is no better choice! You'll be back in your room and there will still be people in the theater.

Yes, we walked it many times during our December visit. Took about 10 minutes.

Do not approach the walkway from the boardwalk itself, but go outside at the stairway closest to your room, on the pool side of the building, and go from there . . or. . .

Take the hallway to the stairs furthest from the elevator, to the exit near the tennis courts. Exit towards the pool side, and you are already beyond the quiet pool and well on your way to MGM.

Those with rooms far from the elevator, overlooking the quiet pool or the tennis courts, are rewarded with a short walk to MGM.

The walk is quiet, peaceful, and at night is especially beautiful. A nice wind down after Fantasmic crowds

The walk is very nice. Like many others, we had been waiting patiently for them to finally open it permanently. On our last trip (January), I took some photos as it was a lively topic for discussion at the time. The photos are still on my home page. Click past the Welcome Page and on the Home Page, click on the link in the Yellow Banner....

Just to give you an idea of the walk compared to taking the boat:

After Fantasmic one night in September, there was the typical huge line for the boat. As we headed for the path, a boat was just appearing, headed for the Studios dock. The boat passed us when we were near Luna Park, so I think it would be about an equal amount of time to get to the room if you are able to get on an approaching boat. However, as there we about 3 boats worth of people waiting, the walk was much faster.

Thanks to all who responded on the BWV walk question. (Mr. Neth pics were great and nice web site.) Does the path run on both sides of the canal?

There is a sidewalk on the S/D side of the canal for part of the way but it doesn't go under the bridge and it doesn't continue on the MGM side of the road. Looks like it just loops back up along the road toward the entrance to the hotels and Fantasia Gardens.
