Let me start by saying I am thrilled to be staying at the BWV. I really don't care what view I end up with.

I am not a DVC member and have booked a room (paying with cash) in January for my trip in several days. From what I can gather from reading these boards, my chances for getting a "pref. view" room are pretty good for the following reason.

-Many DVC members try to reserve a "stand. view" room to save some points.

I have two questions that I hope someone can please answer.

1) Does this sound right?
2) Isn't this a good thing for me? After all, I would think most people would want a "pref. view" room.

Thanks

Glenn

Chances are you will get a preferred view because about 85% of the standard rooms rooms are currently closed for renovations (the ones along the front driveway). Preferred view is boardwalk, swan/dolphin, main pool, quiet pool. The only standard views open are across from the tennis courts at the end of the building near the parking lot.

Have a great trip! :D

The preferred vs. standard view is dicey for me personally. I prefer standard and there seems to never be one available. It is my understanding at Boardwalk, and I'm sure other villas as well, that if you can see water it is a preferred view. Virtually all rooms are facing water of some sort so they are all almost "preferred" rooms.
I do believe DVC'ers who have been to WDW would rather save points and add trips. But just is not as easy as it sounds. I'm basing my comments on three times requesting standard and not getting it and what the desk clerks told me as an explanation.
Hope that helps.

If you book 11 months out you can almost always get a standard view. Regards, Rich
