I am stuck between going with a studio or 1-bedroom for our trip in October 2007. Our daughter will be 17 months old at that point and my instincts tell me to go with the 1 bedroom due to space, laundry, the desire to eat in the room, and space ;)

But I would also like to keep some points available for a trip in early 2008 since we'll buy annual passes.

What do you think?

If you are staying a full week, I would certainly go with the 1 bedroom. Having the kitchen and washer/dryer are a big plus! Also, it would be advantageous to bring a playpen for your daughter. This way she can sleep in the room if you want to watch tv or something in the living room, or sleep in the living room if you would like some privacy in the bedroom. Either way you will have a wonderful time. :wizard:

I say save the points and go for a studio, particularly if:

1) At 18 mths, she'll can still (I assume) sleep in the crib, so there will be no reason to pull out the couch. Without the pull-out, a studio is quite roomy.

2) If she will be sleeping in your bedroom anyway.

3) You plan on spending an appreciable time in the parks, why waste the points on the room?

4) Realistically won't be cooking all that much in the room (breakfast and lunch is pretty easy in the studio with a refrigerator and microwave anway.

I admit laundy is nice, but again, is it worth sacrificing a future trip?

I'm frugal on points, if you can't tell...... ;)

You can request a Pack&Play no need to bring your own.

While having a 1 bedroom would be nice, I think saving the points for a future vacation would be even nicer! I'm sure you'll be comfortable in a studio.

We just got back yesterday from three nights in a studio with a 2.5 year old and a 6 month old (and 2 adults). We did not feel crowded. I say go for the studio and save your points for another trip!

no need to request, there are pack & plays in all DVC villas. If yours is missing just call MK

Studio - because someday you might need that 1-bedroom - second child a boy - or you take other family members.

besides more trips vs bigger - more trips wins for me!!!

We are spoiled by the one bedrooms...we usually do the first weekend of our trip in a studio because of point costs, then switch to a one bedroom for the weeknights. I used to be really frugal, but the one bedroom is just sooooo nice it's worth the splurge.

Since you're asking and they are your points, I would go with the 1 bedroom. We're empty nesters now, but when traveling to WDW with our boys, we would have to stay outside the room, in the hall, while they napped. The sons just did better when we kept to their regular schedule. I would have jumped to have a 1 bedroom if they had been available. Now, in a studio, you could have the option of staying on the balcony, but for me, I would go with the 1 bedroom and let the future take care of itself.

We would not have gone to WDW at all when our 2 kids were younger if it wasn't for the one bedroom. DH would have put his foot down and nixed the trips!!!!! :rolleyes1

The way we vacationed, we REALLY used the kitchen a lot during those young years. So, much easier to feed the baby first. We spent a lot of time in the room.

We did laundry each and every day. And it seemed that one or both of the kids would get sick if not EVERY trip, every other trip! The washer/dryer really came in handy when DD was sick in the middle of the night and I had to launder all the towels she got "sick" on. :sad2:

5 years into DVC and 9 trips under my belt, I have yet to stay in a studio because we love the larger units so much.

My girls (5 & 8 then) and I will be staying in a studio during our next trip. DH won't be going so I think we can go to a smaller unit. We will eat out more and spend less time in the room. But I will miss the washer/dryer in the room but the girls are are old enough that they can watch tv while I pop down to laundry room or better yet, they can help me carry!

That all being said, if you are wanting to stretch your points and you have never stayed at either, I would advise you to try the studio FIRST. Otherwise, if you are like us, it will be harder to downsize later.

Good luck vacation planning!!!!!

We always go with the 1 bedroom. I like to try to keep my son on the saME SCHEDUALE (8pm bedtime) as at home and unless my husband and I want to go to bed at 8 as well it is essential for us to have a seperate bedroom. We put him to bed and can still watch tv and talk without waking my son. Also love the washer dryer and kitchen. I don't cook but love to eat breakfast in the room before going out for the day.

I agree with saving the points for that next trip. Do the studio and have a great vacation.
