I am in the process of buying points at BWV (I'm in the ROFR stage). I was hoping some of you Boardwalk vets could give me some tips on this subject; I notice that there is standard and preferred view, I am really hoping to have a view of Illuminations at EPCOT from my room, if I book preferred view does that over look EPCOT or do I have to be more specific? If I do have to be more specific can I request a view of EPCOT?

I know if you get the preferred pool view you will not see fireworks. We stayed in a standard view and could see all of the fireworks - even some of the lower ones. It was amazing.

You need a Boardwalk View. It's the same points as a Preferred View but your room will overlook the boardwalk. I've always been able to see at least some of the fireworks from those rooms and a view of the Y&BC, plus the fireworks from MK in the distance at night.

Do all the standard units see the fireworks?
we have one booked for september.:goodvibes

I appreciate the replies. This forum is really great, it's very active and people here are very helpful and quick to reply. I feel that I have a pretty good knowledge base as far as WDW goes, like a lot of you it's kind of an obsession, excluding DVC which I am just starting to get into and I honestly hope that I can pay it forward on other areas regarding WDW but every time I find a question that I fell I can help on, like ten people beat me to the punch. I will keep looking to help out when I think I can and I really do thank you guys for the honest information I have gotten so far.

Some units are better than others - high and towards the end of the hall are better bets. Some balconies are blocked by trees (generally in a bigger unit, one balcony will be open, but in a studio, you may end up behind a tree). We had ground floor fairly close to the lobby - that had a view of SOME higher fireworks. At least a few Standard View units are back behind the Keister Coaster - those don't see fireworks at all.

Its a similar situation with BW Views - higher and down the hall are better bets (less of a tree issue).

Note that most of Illuminations happens close to the lake - with Epcot a five minute walk away, we walk in if we want to actually SEE Illuminations.

Preferred Views (non-Boardwalk) generally don't see fireworks - I think some units might see some of Illuminations or Fantasmic, but those are the exceptions.

Also - Boardwalk/Preferred/Standard are booking categories, not requests. You'll know if you get one at the time of booking. Boardwalk and Standard View are only 20% of the resort each - they tend to book long before Preferred View fills up. In my experience, I've had LOUSY luck on getting Boardwalk to meet REQUESTS. If I ask for high floor, we can walk out to the pool. If we want to be down towards the end of the hall, we are close to the elevators.....
