BWV Preferred View

Granny , nice job on the map . ( Great idea )
I want to add that the rooms you have at the bottom of the photo at the end of standard view , marked in red , are not preferred but standard too. Heres a photo from 2135 ( my favorite room )

Believe it or not, they may be both. The Boardwalk used to put overflow standard view guests in the rooms overlooking the now torn down red building (near the Swan-Dolphin Bridge). Now the area is a croquet lawn and my undersatnding is that it is now always preferred. It would make sense if they now used the area at the far end of the standard view rooms for the same purpose that they used to use the red building view for.

I've gotten this 1 bedroom twice in the last year .

Wow, was this pic a standard room view? If so, I'm gonna request this one! Merry Christmas!! :santa:

I think this room is officially preferred but they sometimes upgrade standard to it. I know there was a poster on this board who got it when they reserved preferred and complained because if you looked straight ahead they could see the valet parking lot (this picture must have been to the side). Member Services said it was preferred.

I'm looking at a copy of my reservations for 1/27 and for room type it just says "Two Bedroom Villa". I payed for a preferred room. I was looking to see if it said Garden or BW view and it doesn't say either. Should I check on this? I rented 150 points for Sun-Thurs. stay.

This is my first time renting points and just want everything to go right. TIA!

Are you saying that you check in on 1/27 (Sunday) and depart on 1/31 Thursday? The points don't seem to add up for your dates for a 4 night stay for either category.

Sorry, I meant Sun.-Fri. stay. 150 points total.

That would be preferred view, 30 points per night. I have a reservation for next year for a boardwalk view and it says "1 bedroom boardwalk view". If yours doesn't say, then it's probably pool/garden.

Thanks for the update. When I read this I thought the same thing that HBC thought...that maybe some rooms that used to be designated as Preferred on the end are now designated Standard since they got rid of the Standard View overlooking the (now) croquet lawn.

I know that Maria (MiaSRN62) reported getting one of those end rooms and being charged preferred points a few years ago.

I'll make the change to the map...and again I appreciate the feedback. I agree that is a very nice standard view room, and the shortest walk to MGM from there! :)

It may be worth a disclaimer on the map that this is "what's been reported recently by members" - as you know, DVC won't disclose exactly which rooms are in which category, and its my own suspicion that some of these rooms have a little "flexibility" in what you get - both the ones at the end and the village green rooms.

(There have apparently been some people booked in "standard view" rooms right behind the Keister Coaster - if you weren't looking at the slide structure, it would be a pool view, but since what you see is the slide structure, apparently, at least on occation, those are standard view rooms).

crisi...good points all around. I agree that there have seemed to be some conflicting reports about what seem to be the same rooms being classified both standard and preferred. Sometimes though, I think some folks think that Preferred View = Boardwalk View and that muddies the waters a bit when they report about their rooms.

I'll keep working on the map. I like the disclaimer....I'd hate to have someone print it out and be screaming at a poor CM at check-in using "Granny's Map" as evidence! :scared:

Don't worry, I'm also a member of the "Bonkers for Boardwalk" fan club!!

Hey, count me in on that club as well!

I had other contracts, but consolidated them all into Boardwalk points. I really enjoy staying there the best.

I know, to each his own. But my own happens to be the Boardwalk! :)

Should I ask the DVC member that I rented points from to put in a request for a BW view room if it's possible? She said when I booked it at the time that it was the last 2 BR available.

BW View is not a request, it is a category that must be available and booked at time the reservation is made. Chances are, if there was only one 2 bedroom left, then it is probably pool/garden view if Preferred.

The naming is far from actually helping the situation. I don't know any Boardwalk fan that prefers the "preferred view" rooms. At 20% of the resort, standard view rooms are far from "standard" - and 'of course' every room at the Boardwalk Villas is Boardwalk View - that would only be common sense. No wonder people are confused. I could have a boilerplate text that explains the view situation at the Boardwalk - and reminds people that they can get the Dumpster View at VWL or look at the road at BCV for the same number of points as the Preferred View at BWV.

The map is great though.

Just back tonight from the Boardwalk! All I can say is WOW - we had a preferred view studio #5055 which faced the community green with a FANTASTIC view of Epcot and MGM or should I say Disney Hollywood Studios fireworks! I can't say enough great things about that room - and BVW (even though I own at BCV ;) )!

Can anyone help me figure out which preferred room (not BW view) to request? I would love a nice view of Epcot or DHS. TIA!

uromac - can you tell me where your room was located on Granny's map? Your view sounds like what I'm looking for.

In half a dozen BW trips now, we have NEVER had a view request met. We have never been offered a choice of rooms or had anything other than a preassigned room given to us. Have realistic expectations. There won't be a view of Epcot fireworks in a preferred View room (or very very few of them) - a few overlooking either pool may have a view of the Studios fireworks - ask for a high floor facing the Studios for your best chance.

Fireworks views at the Boardwalk aren't great - both Fantasmic and Illuminations are close to the water. Plus trees, the Boardwalk itself, the other buildings, etc. get in the way for most of the rooms - there may be a few rooms that have great fireworks views - but not many. After several years of rooms, we prefer lower floors with less chance of fireworks views - but easier stair access to the pool and bus stop. BWV are so close to MGM and Epcot that if we want to see fireworks, its easier to walk into the park.

There is a map in this thread that Granny posted showing the types of rooms for the BWV's.

The area you spoke about above, the preferred rooms that overlook the Village Green, are only going to be studios, however.

Hope this helps.
