I just booked a Studio at BWV and all they had available were the Preferred View rooms. Do any of these rooms overlook the Boardwalk Area? What are my options for view with this type of room?

There are two separate Preferred View booking classifications.

PV - Water & Garden
PV - Boardwalk View

Each of these View Classifications has the same point schedule.

The CM should have told you when you booked which one you were getting. Your confirmation hard copy will tell you which one, as well as the web site if the Vacation Details section is accessible.

Or you can call MS and ask them which one you have.

If you have PV Boardwalk View then you will overlook the Boardwalk & Crescent Lake.

If you have PV Water & Garden you will overlook the pools or canal. You can put in a request for a particular area (ie, overlooking the quiet pool/Community Hall) or "close to elevators" or other such requests.

If you have Water/Garden View you will no overlook the Boardwalk. There are a few of these overlooking the Village Green area.

Hopefully the map below will explain it clearly.

If they did not specifically say boardwalk view, you probably have a pool/garden view. The Village Green area has many studios, that would be the small red line area next to the blue line on granny's map.

The Village Green area has studios, but not many of them, the VAST majority of preferred view rooms are going to face the canal. There are three curves in Granny's map:

The bottom of the map faces the croquet lawn and the S&D. The next curve (the C curve) is over Luna Park, the theme pool. The third curve is over the quiet pool and the community hall.

We have never got a location request met at the BW - have realistic expectations about what sort of options you will be given. Last time we checked in the room was assigned.

We are staying at BWV for the first time in December. We have a water/garden view. We did not request anything specific, although I really would like a balcony. Can that be requested? It appears that the Village Green area is the closest to BW activities, walking to Epcot and getting to the bus stop. Is that the case? Can that area be requested?

All the rooms have a balcony or porch. Better views are from the top floor. You can request Village Green (but I think it's only studios).

We have a studio reserved - maybe I will call tomorrow and see about getting the Village Green area. I would much prefer a balcony (the higher the floor, the better) over a patio. We booked inside 7 months and there were no BW views still available.
