From what I understand, Boardwalk view is an actual booking category, correct? Different than Preferred View?

Are all Boardwalk view studios close to elevators and the lobby? Close, as in, a 5 minute walk or less to the lobby/bus stop. My folks may be interested in booking a boardwalk view but they need a fairly close elevator because multiple flights of stairs isn't an option due to slight mobility issues and I know they'd like to be within a few minutes of the lobby and bus stop (again due to mobility issues).

I think at this point they're trying to decide between BLT Lake View, BWV Boardwalk View, and maybe BCV but they haven't looked seriously at it yet. I guess AKV doesn't appeal to them (which is where we're staying) because they didn't really mention it. I just want them to be happy. :)

The actual booking categories are Boardwalk View and Pool/Garden View. The Pool/Garden View is sometimes still referred to as Preferred View.

There used to just be the Preferred View and Standard View booking categories, but the Preferred View was eventually broken out into Boardwalk View and Pool/Garden View.

First understand that the bus stop is on the BWI side of the resort and thus there is no BWV room close to it. But from the lobby it is only about a minute to two walk to the bus stop.

Then be aware that no boardwalk view rooms are real close to the elevator or lobby. The walk to the elevator ranges from about 30 to 110 seconds with a boardwalk view room. There is no room that would be 5 minutes away from the lobby (boardwalk view or otherwise) because now you would be talking AKV Kidani distances from room to lobby rather than boardwalk distances which are short compared to Kidani.

You do not mention when you want to reserve but be aware that baordwalk view is one of high demand and not often avaialble at 7 months out and during high demand times in the last quarter of the year it can be gone quickly once the 11 month window opens.

As to views, there was originally no view categories when BWV opened in 1996 and point costs per night for each room size were the same throughout the resort. Then shortly after it opened, and following a lot of complaints about differences in views, DVD made about 20% of the resort standard and the rest preferred view with resulting differences in points between the two views. Then sometime in the early 2000's, it divided preferred view into pool'garden view (about 65% of the resort) and boardwalk view (about 15% of the resort) booking categories, although the points per night for both views remained the same.

We have only stayed once in a Boardwalk view. Our room was almost the last one on the hall. I think we were closer to the Swan/Dolphin than we were to the Boardwalk lobby. We did have an excellent view of the EPCOT ball and fireworks though.

The rooms above the store are Boardwalk aren't far from the elevator and have a Boardwalk view.

Thanks for your help. I'm not sure if BWV would be the best fit for them as far as their needs and wants go. It looks like BLT may be a little bit better for them. They are used to regular hotels so I don't think they quite understand the scale of WDW resorts (which I didn't either until I physically saw them). I know Disney can't accommodate everyone's requests.

Thanks!

Just so you are aware, the walk to the monorail or bus stop for BLT is further then the walk to the boat or bus at BWV.

Just as a clarification ..... "Standard View" at BWV was always planned as a separate booking category and not created in reaction to complaints. They did not publish the "Standard View" Points Chart however until they got close to declaring / selling the points for those particular units (which I believe was in 1998).

I had a room on the north side of BLT last year and thought the same thing, that the monorail was a hike. If you had a room closer to the bridge it might not be as bad.

I thought VGF was long too, especially considering you have to go up through the lobby to get to the monorail.

I'm not complaining about either, I'm just saying that BWV gets a bad rap for being so far. I've been in room 4001, the farthest one and don't think it was any farther than the two I mentioned.

Even close to the bridge, it's still quicker to the MK entrance turnstiles to walk. IMO, the monorail transportation option at BLT is not an advantage. Can take forever to get back to BLT from EPCOT - two waits for a monorail and then a walk back to the room at BLT that is longer than those I've experienced staying at the end of the BWA SV hallway.

I don't get the complaints about the long BWV hallways, either (As drusba says, AKV can be much longer LOL). Even if you have to walk a minute or two to your room from the lobby (and I also agree with drusba's timing for those), it's all in air conditioning. Plus if your party can do stairs, there are convenient shortcuts all over the resort.

But I don't really mind the complaints - just means less competition when we book. :teeth:

We were in studio room 4005 in June. It was the best view we have ever had, including at BLT. Loved sitting on the balcony at night with the boardwalk lit up and the boat horns. We could see everything from S/D all the way to ESPN. We were in the "crest o' the wave" section and it was a very long walk. But it was worth it.

I HAVE been IN the very last room before you reach the end of the hall!! More times than I care to remember! Haha...But like you said...the view was amazing. And...I could also see fireworks towards the left of the balcony which I assumed were from the MK. I'll more than likely get that room again. Seems it's my destiny!! :rotfl:

We stayed at BWV last year. We book a preferred view and it was wonderful! We had a HC room as my DD uses a wheelchair. We had a view of th epool on the 1st floor. It was close to everything! We enjoyed our stay there!!!!
