BWV Pool Hopping

We just returned from our first visit to BWV. We had a wonderful time, and are very pleased with the staff, room, and location.
I just wanted to share a little situation I observed while at the pool at BWV. Pool hopping privalages were discontinued on Thursday the 1st of July due to the Holiday weekend. The staff was checking cards and handing out wrist bands for guests of the resort. They approached one woman who was not a guest and informed her that she would have to go to her resort to swim. The woman gave the staff member a hard time because she felt she had the right to be there. After about 45 minutes of explaining the staff member finally gave in to a certain extent. She told the woman that if it got any busier she would have to pack up. That wan't good enough for her though and started to complain to one of the other guests of the resort. The woman she complained to told the woman to read the rules, and that she was wrong to complain. She also told the woman to imagine if she was at her resort and couldn't find a place to sit because all the seats were taken by people not staying at her resort.
After all that she still didn't leave. It took a rain shower to get her to go.
Now here's the thing that really got me. SHE WAN'T ALONE! SHE HAD 11 other family members with her. They took up half of the alcove we were at.
I just thought I would share that with you.

We saw this too. Are you referring to the area behind the elephants and life guard stand?

We were on our way through the pool area out to the Boardwalk and saw the "interaction" take place. I was amazed at how the woman ( and she was older and should've known better-assuming she can read, they had the signs out) continued to give the CM a hard time. We wondered what the resolution was...

Oddly enough, we didn't see them checking on Friday.

I saw a similar encounter last summer at Beach Club. The guards were into it with a woman who clearly was not a guest at the resort. I could have broken my neck from leaning over to eavesdrop! After lengthy discussion, the guards did bring her family wristbands, so perhaps she WAS "legit" but that is not the impression I got. It was funny because while she was arguing heatedly with the guards, her hubby was just sort of lurking on the sidelines.

I think when someone throws a fit, the management backs down rather than let a scene unfold. Perhaps this will change as more legitimate guests keep griping about unwelcome visitors at resort pools.

Ironically, these people will not see themselves as the reason if DVC discontinues pool hopping. We'll be hearing them whine I only bought at XYZ resort because we could pool hop to another resort waaaaa

It reminds me of the time we were behind some people going into MGM for the early entry for those staying at Disney hotels only. When this family of four got to the front of the line and were asked for their ket to the world card, they told the CM they had left them back in their room. The CM even asked them how they would get back into their room without them but the argument went on. They were finally let in much to my annoyance because they obviously were not entitled to the early entry.

It often seems that Disney gives in to those who put up a stink to avoid problems. As someone who tries to follow the rules and tries to get our kids to follow rules, it really stinks when those who don't are rewarded for their efforts.

Unfortunately on any day in WDW, you'll see pool crashers, smokers lighting up wherever they feel like it, line cutters, and many other examples of the "it's all about me" attitude. It's a shame that anyone who pitches a fit seems to get their own way.

We sat and watched the whole thing go down. "I would of left as soon as they told me the situation."

As a DVC member, I would not have gotten involved in this situation until the CM backed down and let them stay. Then I would have complained and demanded that the rules be followed. That is ridiculous! And as someone else posted, instances like this will most likely be the cause of pool hopping being eliminated.

This is not just happening at WDW, this is happening all across this country.
Today is July Forth, Independence Day, and I say it's time to stand up
for all of us that do follow the rules to speak up. if you see an episode
like what happened at BWV we should all speak up. That's my take
anyway!

Until we get the whole story we shouldn't assume that this was a DVC member trying to pool hop.

Her story could have been about anything. Please don't use this as an example of rude DVC behavior without knowing what happened. As far as I see the OP never stated that this person was a DVC member from another resort. Just not a guest at the BW.

What I find interesting is if you post this type of thread on the DVC board we all agree it's wrong and really can't understand why anyone would think they are entitled to swim anywhere they want without staying there and why they can't abide by the rules without having Disney cram them down their throats.

However if you want to see why people think this way, just post this on the Resorts Board and stand back and wait to be called the Morale Police and Disney Police for feeling this way. Many there see no problem with it.

Or do a search, a recent one was closed as usual due to the name calling.

I am disappointed in Disney that they cater to the guest that is willing to make a scene and are not concerned about making the rule abiding, paying guest inconvenienced in the process.

Ahh yes, we need to go back to our founding fathers' ideas about pool hopping and old refillable mugs.....

This person was horse's rear end, & the CM should have gotten a manager or security involved if they could not dissuade the person from swimming.

We were also at BWV on the July 1st. The CM's put signs at all the entrances to the pool stating the 'pool was open only to guests staying at Boardwalk and Boardwalk Villas'. One CM was asking to see the card key and giving out wristbands. A CM would walk around periodically and check to see if everyone had a wristband.
Guess some people don't think they have to follow the rules. They should have been removed from the pool if they were not staying at BW or BWV.

This issue sort of reminds me of the refillable mug controversy.

I'm afraid the bad PR from forcibly removing a violator will always prohibit Disney from enforcing of the rule.

my family and I pool-hopped from bwv to SAB. I didn't realize that after the addition of bcv, you couldn't pool hop anymore. Anyway, we presented our room keys, and were told we were no longer allowed to pool hop there. (the pool was the least crowded I have ever seen it) Anyway, I just kinda was like "oh, rats!" and we went back to bwv. I would never have stayed and argued the point!
The interesting thing to me was, in our particular situation that day, disney lost out on revenue from us. WE were planning on renting floats and having drinks. At bwv, we often bring our own drinks to the pool from our rooms, rather than constantly be gouged out the pool bar.
I felt bad we weren't allowed to pool hop that day, especially being SAB was the emptiest I'd ever seen it. But, rules are rules!
Like I'm gonna get into a big argument on vacation!

There's the law of diminishing returns... How long can an argument like this go on, before it then starts to negatively affect the guests nearby. I can see why the CM would give up at some point.

Yeah but...if the CM held his ground and maybe got and got them escorted out, I wonder if the BC guests would have applauded. I mean it probably left a bad taste in the mouths of the people staying at BC who paid for the rights to use SAB. Isn't that in effect bad PR?

Now, for non-busy times, maybe SAB could be opened up to DVC members on a limited basis. Say, reserve 50 slots max for non BC guest. Let them hold a $7 deposit and get a special colored wristband. They would also sign and agreement that if it got too full with BC guest, they will be asked to give up their access for a full refund.

If that doesn't happen, you get $5 back when you return the wristband. Then they can re-rent your spot.

Not to pick on you, ez, but when I hear this "lost revenue" moan I just want to throw up. We get this all the time from the pool hoppers, from the ancient mug users, from the people who didn't have the right ticket to enter whatever park, etc. The $20-30 that you would have spent at SAB would not even make a dent in the income that day.
