BWV maintenance, what would you do?

It appears piping and roof work will be done at BWV while we are there. It is our first trip staying at BWV and I'm excited that we got a boardwalk view. The noise should be limited to 9 - 5, but I was told there will be construction materials in the hallways. We usually go back to our rooms mid day for a rest too since we have two small kids.

Kinda worried about it, but not too stressed. Hubby doesn't care. I mentioned to my Mom yesterday about it and she was like she would call and see if she could get in somewhere else if it was her...

I thought maybe I will call and see what is available - I call and VWL was available for all days but one, I would have to waitlist. Same with SSR. (I figure we'll see construction at SSR anyway, so what is the difference?) BCV, we'll be at in July. So I passed.

What would anyone else do? The only things I'm concerned about is not being able for the kids to nap during the day cause of noise or the hall being messy and kinda ruining the feel since it is our first time staying there.

Opinions appreciated. Thanks!

I'd call the resort and ask for a Supervisor/Manager. Then I'd ask for a candid opinion on what noise we're talking about. Check to see if it will impact the entire resort or just the BW views or ????? If it appears that the noise will prevent naps, I'd either:

Ask to be changed to a quiet pool view at BWV (back of resort and maybe not impacted by the work)

or

Waitlist for the missing day at VWL.

Best wishes -

P.S. Is OKW out of the question? Or wasn't anything available there? My understanding is that it's very quiet there (except for the pool party, LOL).

We had painters etc working at OKW in August, and it was no problem. I think the biggest problem would be if you had a top floor room.

We were there in October and they had a pipe leak in the hall outside our room. Wasn't a huge deal. Maintenance was there for an afternoon (and the floor was wet that morning). But the point is, you could switch resorts, have a pipe burst and then have maintenance outside your room anyway. Or you could go to BWV and discover they are working on a different floor in a different part of the hotel while you are there and you never see them.

As others have mentioned, they aren't going to be ripping apart the whole resort at once. I'm sure the work will be done in sections. The suggestion to discuss it with the resort is a good one. Hopefully, they can try to locate you in an area away from the work so that your afternoons will be restful.

My understanding is that tye ar egoing to be working on the front of the resort, above the thing where you drop off the luggage and pick up your valet car. Chances are,if you have a Boardwalk view, you'll be pretty far away from the activity anyhow.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it and enjoy my stay. You've been looking forward to this visit for a while. It may turn out to be absolutely unnoticable.

Good luck with your decision!

The way I read it, there are two projects happening. One is the work on the porte cochere which will primarily impact the SV rooms. The other project is some type of work on the pipe system throughout the resort. This work will most likely be done in sections so I think the impact will be minimal on most guests.

we are going the same week, also boardwalk view, also small child (2yr) :teeth:

i'm not worried, i figure the place is so big what are the odds of any loud banging going on right outside my door?

jeez i hope i didn't just jinx myself!

Thanks everyone.
I guess I'm gonna chance it and keep the ressie. Was I lucky to even get the boardwalk view since I don't own there?

Kim, try and wear something lime green and I will, too. We can keep an eye out for each other. Maybe our little ones will end up playing in the pool together.

I wouldn't worry. We were there in January and alot of the rooms were getting new carpet (I think that's what it was). We came back to the room every day for naps and the banging wasn't too bad. We could hear it occasionally - but it certainly didn't impact my DD falling asleep. I think you will be fine!!

I would not worry about it. It states right in the paragraph that was in the DVC newsletter that this is "building maintenance" that will extend to "limited areas" of the building and "segments of the piping system". That certainly does not sound like we are talking about a major rehab; like when the outside siding was replaced.
If you still have concerns though, I would call the BW's general manager and speak to them. I am sure you will get much more reliable information regarding this rehab from a person in authority at BW then you will get from people speculating on a discussion board.

We have been there when they were doing some big jobs and it hasn't been an issue, never had any problem with noise and we almost always go back and have a break mid day.

It seems like they've been working on the BW since 2000...
That is when they started on rehab replacing all the outside siding and awnings. There was some kind of construction problem that caused this to be necessary. Since it was a huge rehab that encompassed both BWI and BWV, it took several years to complete.
Last year the main pool got a total rehab and now it seems it is some of the piping system and roofing that is being rehabbed. As a BWV member, I am thrilled that BWV is constantly being rehabbed and kept up to such high standards!

I think all will be well and your Boardwalk View stay will be just fab!

thanks

Shan....we'll be staying in July at a BWV in a Standard View room, which by the description will probably be more affected by this than the BW view rooms. So in answer to your question as to what we would (and will) do....

...we'll have a great time and not worry about it. :p

Well, you did ask our opinions! :)

I wouldn't worry about it. I would imagine that the staff has thought ahead and is aware of how to handle it. My guess is that wherever work is being done, rooms aren't occupied. Just a guess. At our last stay in Disney, we were at BWI, which was undergoing what looked to be a major rehab. Somehow, I never heard a sound.
