I know it's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question but historically is this something that's impossible to get?

We're looking for 11/12 nights end of August, beginning of September next year.

Just trying to understand if my expectations are realistic or not.

Thank you

11 to 12 nights? I'd put your odds at moderate to low. 7 nights before F&W begins? I'd put your odds at good to pretty good. End of August is when things wind down due to school starting up. But, when you get into 11 or 12 nights and start bleeding into mid-August (before school begins) and September (F&W), your chances at that many nights in a row at 7 months diminishes. That last week of August before F&W is the sweet spot for sure. And the Grand Villa is the last thing to go, even during the busiest times.

Can't really use this years availability as a guide as Galaxy's Edge is throwing all the norms off. But, that being said, the GV is open for the last week of August 2019 for 6 nights, and thats <5 months out (but everything else is mostly gone). But that many nights in a row probably isn't possible. You will definitely get at least partial availability, but may need to consider a split stay. Waitlists are kinda pointless with the GV.

My impression is that a Grand Villa at that time, is fairly likely to be available right at 7 months. The last 2 weeks of August are not high demand, nor is the first week of September, though it is somewhat busier than August. I would try to reserve it right at the 7 month window. You are very likely to get most of your days, if not all. If you don't get them all, then go on the waitlist immediately for the days yu are missing, and I think you will probably pick it up. Even now, at 5 months out, there is one block of 5 days still available right during that period. But I wouldn't depend on that. Schedule early.

Definitely unlikely, especially for that length of stay. BWV will be missing multiple days in the GV at 7 months most of the year.

Thank you all, we'll be 2 families, both with 2 adults and a teenager - 17 year old boy and 18 year old girl, I think i'll book 2 x 1 beds at 11 months at my home resort, then just have a look at 7 months just incase. It's helped manage my expectations knowing it's unlikely, I've never looked at GV availability before as never thought we'd have one.

BWV: during WDW's high DVC demand season that runs from late Sep to marathon weekend in Jan, the BWV GV's sometimes fill at or a little before 11 months out and, except for stray days here and there, are usually filled before 7 months out. During WDW's low to moderate demand season that runs from the Monday after marathon weekend to late Sep, BWV GV's are typically filled for 2 to 4 days per week by 7 months out, but sometimes can be found open for a week at 7 months out, e.g., that actually happened today, Dec 9, when this morning you could have reserved the GV for a week for July 9-16 (July after about July 7 is one of the lowest DVC demand times of the year)

Note that the date this was written was December 2016, but there has been little sign this general trend has changed.

I would certainly book unit(s) at your home resort at 11 months if your dates are firm.
