BWV-Dirty Room AGAIN

Last October, our first visit as a DVC member, came to the BWV, only to be put in a smoking room that had food left in the fridge and the bathroom never cleaned! Well, a few days prior to coming again, I called to confirm my ressies and told the MS gal about my last visit and the only reason I'm at the BWV this trip is that I couldn't get into BCV (I sold my BWV and kept the BCV). Well, I've found leftover food in our cupboards (doritoes, nuts and peanut butter and while looking for the small white garbage can that is usually in the bathroom, found it under the sink, completely overfilled containing used sanitary napkins and tampons!!!!



I'm beyond saying anything any longer, I did take some pics and think I'll find out who to write to and send along my pics of my 'surprises' in my room. You know, I've come to WDW since it opened and have stayed pretty much in all the resorts and have NEVER come across these kinds of issues. Last visit, I sent an email concerning the housekeeping issues and got a call from someone who was obviously very well trained in listening and not saying anything to incriminate DVC. I'd like to sidestep that and take it further.



What would you do? Ever get to the point that it's not even worth pursuing? I'm not going to allow this to ruin our otherwise fantastic time. Gotta tell ya, handling someone elses body byproducts without gloves is pretty gross.

Very sorry to hear that you 've had this bad experience. It's worse than bad it's horrible IMO. Did you call front deck to ask that the room be cleaned?

I'm so certain that you are so displeased, after your long journey to come "home" to that scenerio. Very disturbing.

Any disappointment and anger you are feeling is completely legitimate! Tossing a little pixie dust your way in hopes the remainder of your vacation is Magical!

I am so sorry this happened to you. I would be very upset and speak to the manager or someone who seems to care. It is horrible that this has happened to you not just once but twice. They definitely need to be notified because there definitely seems to be a breakdown in communication as to when a room has been cleaned. I think taking pictures was a good idea. I hope you have a wonderful time despite this inconvenience.

I'm so sorry to hear this. But unfortunately, this is not an isolated issue. We had so many problems during our last stay, that my feelings are really sour towards the place right now. And I have always been a die hard BW fan!

I also voiced my complaints, and I don't feel like they really addressed my issues. They were quick to try to compensate me, but I really didn't want compensation. I wanted to be assured that my issues wouldn't happen to anyone else.

Well obviously, based on your experience, they have!

When you check in, do you notice someone whisper to someone else and they quickly leave out the back way as if they are on a mission to mess up your room before you get there? Because thats a bad sign. Seriously thats just weird (and gross). Better luck next time-if there is one.

What would you do?

I'd march to the front desk, grab the manager on duty (by the ear if I had to), drag him back to the room and make him personally clean it up.

I'm convinced that unless the Boardwalk management experiences some sort of personal negative consequence they won't take the time to truly remedy their inconsistant housekeeping situation.

Very few things gross me out. A bag of chips pushed to the back of a cabinet - just toss them out. A spot of mildew in the shower - I'm not going to lick the grout anyway. But what you found under the bathroom sink would have been carried down to the front desk and dumped on their counter. A bit over the top, yes, but that is just gross! If calmer minds prevailed, I probably wouldn't have 'dumped' it on the front counter, but you can bet that it would have been 'placed' on the front counter and the CM asked in a loud voice why it was left in the villa for us to find.

Our other timeshares are in Mexico (both Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta) and they both have excellent housekeeping. The maids clean twice a day (including doing the dishes and a turn-down service while we're at dinner featuring flower petals scattered about the bed), the gardner stops by to tend the plants daily, and the poolman performs a daily check on our unit's plunge pool.

I was rather surprised when we were told that DVC doesn't clean on a daily basis unless we pay an extra fee - though some people seem to prefer that arrangement. And obviously, labor costs in Florida are higher than those in Mexico. At least you would expect the cleaning between guests to be thorough.

Having just added on a small contract at BWV, I am dismayed to hear that the housekeeping is an on-going problem. Perhaps the luck of the draw didn't work for you but there'll not be a problem on future visits?

Here's hoping the rest of your vacation is magical!

Uhhh, the front desk CM, more than likely a college program employee, would have had nothing to do with your housekeeping problem. A call on the phone to a housekeeping manager asking that they come to your room because there are several issues that need to be addressed should suffice.

While it was inappropriate that the room was not properly cleaned, trotting the offending material to the front desk and raising a stink is just as inappropriate.

You have every right to be offended and upset. This was a totally unacceptable situation that should never, ever happen. Getting attention to the problem requires dealing with the right person. The housekeeping manager, not the front desk manager, would be the correct person while on property. I hope that someone posts to this thread with the name and address of the correct person to contact now that you are no longer at BWV. Good luck on your future DVC stays. I guess we have just been lucky to have had good experiences at BWV and you have drawn the really short straw twice in a row.

Sorry to hear about your last two stays.....but I don't understand why are you cleaning? This is unacceptable.

I suggest next time go back to the front desk and request another room. Whenever I'm in this position at any hotel/resort, I find it helpful to take pictures on my digital camera or footage on the camcorder and show them to the front desk. Pictures say it all.

If no rooms are left then ask to speak to the manager on duty either insist that someone come and clean your room immediately or have them find you another room at another DVC resort. Make a Stink if you have to !!

What would I do. Same as Chuck suggested. This takes time on the part of the OP during vacation, but to me its worth it.

Call and ask for the Housekeeping Super on duty, the earlier in the day the better. Don't touch anything, and wait for their arrival. Given this can take time.

Let them see first hand the problem. Then be willing to leave to let them reclean the room.

We have had it happen at DVC several times lately. Afterwards I am sure we had the cleanest room in the resort.

I am sooooo sorry---I have to say we must be a gluten for punishment b/c our stay last June at BWV was far from clean and we are going back this June (my husband just loves the atmosphere and location). last eyar there was coke/choc milk splattered all over the wall--dried cheese found in the cushions of the chairs crumbs etc...we "fought" with Housekeeping for 3 days and they NEVER came to clean our room--without going into any other details it was a mess and wound up causing a rift between my hubby and me b/c he said he didn't come on vacation to be stressed about those kind of things but it upset me to see his hard earned money not going to good use if you know what I mean. i'm nervous this time b/c we have a two bedroom b/c my parents are coming and we have raved about DVC--crossing my fingers I won't be let down--not unpacking til I inspect the room that is for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonder why it's such a problem at this resort--we've stayed at 5 other disney resorts and never had a problem...

While I haven't ever had this problem, I was once checked into a room where someone hadn't yet checked out! I think that if you go to your room, and it's dirty, go back to the front desk and ask for a CLEAN room. If the CM's give you a hard time, ask for the Manager. There is no reason to stay in the assigned room if it's still dirty! You are being WAY too nice if you actually clean it yourself! If you are just that kind of person--well, gee, would you like to vacation at my house next time?

After reading several posts, it makes me wonder.... Even if the smallest percentage of rooms at BW that have been found in such unaccecptable conditions and each member contacted management or front desk CM, could it be possible that the housekeeping mngmt might be the problem?
I only ask because no one in the right mind, in that position would actually want to hear or address the negative reactions to members finding themselves in these situations. If they cared about the quality of the work performed by mousekeeping staff they oversee, would this problem continue, again in small percentages overall ? It maybe the mngmnt that doesn't care thus providing a lack of responsibility perceived by housekeeping staff.

Maybe the pictures and comments should be directed straight to the DVC board. If the managers they employ can let these things occur, cut the head off and the body dies(not literally). Bring in new managers who will address the smallest of details that could hopefully eliminate any member to have to suffer thru any event with respect to the OP.

I would address the problems before I unpack. The bag of chips, I would have tossed. The grime? I would have wiped. But a trash full of sanitary napkins and tampons, nope, I may be laid back, but that is just unacceptable. The problem lies with housekeeping managment.

Long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I cleaned rooms at Yellowstone National Park, Old Faithful. They were very very strict about cleanliness, and these were rustic cabins. (separate from the Inn) They were to be inspected by our supervisor before being marked "ready for occupancy". What confuses me, why isn't DVC committed to such standards?

Want to thank everyone for their support....I'm bound and determined not to let this upset my vacation, I'll deal with this situation when I get home. I will tell you this,
as I'm 'prepacking' for my trip home tomorrow morning, I don't care that I'm leaving food in the fridge, I don't care that there's towels on the floor. My 'caring' to take care of DVC villas has really gone out the window. In the past, I would of had this room **** and span upon my departure, anymore, my attitude is, 'why does it matter'?

I'm sorry your room was left in such bad shape, but I really want to stress that the time to have dealt with it was upon checkin by contacting the housekeeping manager or the front desk to tell them the room had not been serviced properly. You should not have cleaned it then complained, you should have called housekeeping immediately. You can write a letter as you state in your other thread, but then it looks more like you are seeking "compensation" for a problem that should have been dealt with then and there.

Finding your room in that condition is unacceptable. I suggest calling the Housekeeping Supervisor and having them come to your room immediately to see the condition and to make sure that the housekeeping staff comes ASAP to thoroughly clean the room.

I also disagree with the wiping up grime or throwing out old food myself and it's not from a being grossed out stand point. We pay for our rooms through our initial purchase and dues and it is DVC's responsibility to provide us with a thoroughly clean room upon check-in. I think if we keep accepting the housekeeping being done halfway then we are just adding to the problem, not helping address it.

I know that when I leave my villa at the end of my stay, I always throw out all my garbage and left-over food to make it easier for housekeeping. I guess a lot of other people don't do this, but housekeeping is responsible for cleaning the rooms.
