BWV and counter service meals

Off the original topic (but rather important): Regarding 2010 DP, I was discussing the seasonal price difference with DVC member services earlier this week and was told this would not apply to DVC members adding the Dining Plan while staying on points (since we do not have to purchase with a package and had different "seasons" than those applicable to the rack rates and packages through WDW guest services)...the individual I spoke with pulled the memo on the 2010 pricing and quoted a section stating the increase would not apply to DVC members. As always, your mileage may vary, but I thought this was interesting.

OK, back to the original question: on your "no park days" I would definitely consider walking over to BC/YC to try either Hurricane Hannah's (you do not have to enter SAB to eat there since it's actually on the edge of the pool area) or paying OOP at Beaches and Cream (YUM!). Your kids would enjoy getting their lunch at Hurricane Hannah's since it comes in a little plastic pail with a shovel (very cute, at least I think they still come that way?). You may even want to wander into BC Marketplace to check our their menu. It really is not that far and might be a fun way to explore (and take care of feeding the family :thumbsup2)

BTW, I have enjoyed following along your updates as you get closer to your first stay as a DVC member...I remember reading your entries last fall after your resale purchase...can you believe you finally are able to make your first reservation!!!? :woohoo: Congrats on finally getting there!!

Thank you so much!! That is so nice! It feels awesome that I made our first reservation this morning! Well, part of it anyway...I have to call back to add the 8th, 9th and 10th nights. So I will be doing that each of the next 3 mornings!

It's interesting that you brought up the DDP seasonal pricing not affecting DVC members staying on points. The CM on the phone this morning (who was great and did seem to really know what she was doing) told me that if we want to add the basic DDP it is $41.99 per adult. And this was after I made our July 2010 reservation. I thought maybe she did not read the right thing to me, but what you are saying is very interesting and I do hope it is true!

Kids' meals coming in a little pail with a shovel at Hurricane Hanna's sounds really cute, and my boys would love that! And it is nice to explore another area. One thing that drew our attention to buying DVC in this area is that the area is so beautiful and it is nice to enjoy the dining options at BC/YC. We plan to go to dinner at Captain's Grille one night, and Cape May one night for dinner and on the last morning of the trip for breakfast. I'm also interested in seeing the menu for Cat Cora's new restaurant by the Boardwalk, to see if we would like to eat dinner there one night as well.

Minster22 you are completely right. We stayed there in Feb. 2008 and one day we spent at the pool and when we wanted to get lunch the only things they served at the pool area were fancy paninis and a salad I think. My kids were 5 & 3 at the time and would not eat either of those things. My DH had to walk out to the boardwalk and go to one of the restaurants (I don't think the pizza window was open and at ESPN they told him they don't do take out). He ended up at the restaurant on the end by the piano bar (can't remember the name) and we were able to get some sandwiches, but it wasn't easy and the way it was packaged, it didn't look like it was something they were accustomed to doing.

This is the only thing we didn't like about BWV, maybe things have changed since then? Just wish they would offer more at the pool area so it's not only more kid friendly, but easier to eat if you don't want to go to a sit down restaurant all the time.

How is the food in the food cart with the funnel cakes and corn dogs and such? What all can you get? Can you use CS credits?

We are usually in the parks during the day while staying at BWV.

As for Epcot...The Fish & Chips in the UK as well as the France and Morocco pavillions are very convenient. I've went to BC Marketplace, and it wasn't my favorite. I'd rather go into Epcot or pay OOP for Beaches & Cream.

..The food carts, while good for OOP, are not Disney owned/operated (A Coke is a few cents cheaper at a cart than the Pizza window)and (lack the infrastructure?) and are not on the DDP.
One of those fustrating things about DDP CS at BWV, I think the carts and Pizza window (imho the only respectable pie made by Disney) make decent CS dining choices, but they are not on the plan..

I would walk over to the BC/YC for a change of pace. My oldest DS likes the BW bakery though. You can get a child's turkey sandwhich or PB & J. The meals at the pool are not on the DDP.

Also, do consider the Flying Fish restaraunt on the BW for a TS. The food is excellent as is the service. They start the kids meals early so that they are eating thier dessert (a white choc. puzzle that you paint with food coloring) during your main course. If they get antsy while waiting for the check simply have one parent bring them to watch the performers on the BW.

It is the only TS restaraunt my DS's insist on going to each time.
