We request a dedicated studio all of the time. We get it about 75% of the time. We've stayed in 15-20 dedicated studios. It has always been a deacons bench, not a day bed. This is only since 2005, so don't know before that. I agree, it's about crib size. They include a sheet and the pad/mattress is about 3-4 inches thick. My 4 yo granddaughter might be able to nap on it, but if she rolls over, she will fall off as it's not very wide. We use ours as a catch all. I've stayed in the rooms at the BWI and BC that have a daybed and this is not the same thing. Those rooms did indeed have a daybed. I'm sure someone here has a pix they can post. I checked Deb's pictures and there is a partial picture of it in one of the groups of studio rooms.
