:bday: HAPPY DAY BEFORE YOUR BIRTHDAY, KAREN!! :bday:

Hey Everyone.

An interesting week. My work week had 5 Mondays in it.

This week is the first time I have walked/run since my failed attempt at the Goofy. I have been resting my knees and doing indoor stuff.

Let's say my knees are giving me mixed emotions on the running.

My STATS for the week are:

Time: 4:30
Miles: 62.

Have a GREAT WEEKEND.

Hey Buzzies,
Thanks for allowing me to be a part of your team. I really look forward to getting to know you and contributing . How about a little background on me. (I had posted this on another thread so if you already know me, sorry!)
I was bouncing merrily along in my simple little life when in Oct/Nov of 2006 I was diagnosed with Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma:sick: . A rare non fatal form of blood cancer. After many test it was decided that I would begin chemo in Jan 2007. Being married to a very strong breast cancer survivor that had overcome a mastectomy and chemo/radiation we handled it very well. One side affect of my chemo/treatment was that I had to take mega doses of prednisone. One of the side effects of this was I ate everything in sightpopcorn:: . So by July of last year I had turned 50, gained 30lbs and received the word that I would have to have chemo every three month until……..So I had another chemo round in Sept. About this time my sister who is an avid runner talked me into walking a couple miles a day to improve my health/weight loss goals. So last Oct I started. Walked and ran right on through 2 chemo treatments in Jan and competed in the marathon relay with my 2 DS and DBIL’s in Myrtle Beach in Feb. (I was a fill in for my DW who has developed Lymphodema in her arm.<side affect of have lymph nodes removed<. Would take another page to explain!!) Anyhow we were so proud of our times at Myrtle Beach when we found out that they would not be doing the relay any more. So we said what the heck, me being the Disney addict in the family let’s all do the Disney ½ next Jan. So we are all signed up and training. There are six of us coming, five entered with DW cheering us on. We are all so excited.
I will keep you updated on training. I work 12hr swing shifts in and office :surfweb: so most of my training is on off days. I did buy a Garmin and have been keeping a record. Thanks again and look forward to getting to know each of you!!

Oh yeah I almost forgot>>>>>>
Happy Birthday Karenparty: :bday: party:

:bday: Karen!

:welcome: Mickey!

All right fellow Buzzies, I need help and a kick in the rear. We finally decided NOT to go this weekend, so I did NOT run 13 miles this morning. I did nothing but sleep. (And it felt really really good, I might admit!) At this moment I don't care if I never run again. I haven't run since Feb 16th - have done a 3 mile walk, but that's the only mileage of any sort in 3 whole weeks. There is a 5K next Saturday that I'm hoping I'll get off the couch and register for (and actually run). Some of it is my ankle, but more of it is lack of motivation. Even knowing I need to be contributing to the weekly competition isn't motivating me to hit the roads or the TM. I don't know if I'm just burned out after a year of prep for Disney, or if I just need to get out there and get to it. I've been on a chocolate binge like someone told me they weren't making anymore, and I know that's not good, especially if I'm not running!

Hoping I can count on you guys to help me out of this funk...

Jackie

wow, I didn't realize how behind I had gotten on this thread. I am all caught up now. I was in NY for work for most of the week and didn't bring a laptop with me so that didn't help.

:welcome: Jessica and Mike!

Duane - I hope you are enjoying your cruise and awesome job on the half PR!

Karen - Happy belated birthday!

John - :wizard: :wizard: for your knees

Kathy (Valentine) - I hope rehersals are going well and that you and Cam are having a great weekend.

Jackie - :wizard: for figuring out what works/is best for you. I guess I can only offer a little advice from my own experience. Maybe you do need to take a break from running for a bit. If your heart isn't into it, then it just isn't. Lack of motivation could be your body telling you that it needs a rest. If you are feeling burned out (and since you are injured and it also seems like you have been really busy with other things lately) maybe giving yourself a little break is the best idea. And then hopefully you will want to start running again. That is what worked for me. After running the Marine Corps Marathon in October, I really couldn't get my heart back into running right away. Some weeks were ok, but most were very low mileage and I even skipped a few. Then in January, I started getting excited about training for the half that I have coming up in 3 weeks - and I actually wanted to run again - but it did take me 2 and a half months. Have you thought about any types of cross training that you might enjoy? Cross training could help keep you in shape but also add some variety.

I know I missed a lot of people, sorry! Hopefully I'll be able to do a better job of keeping up with the thread this week.

I Need to get back to work now (Luckily, I don't have to go into the office, I brought work home with me).

I'm waiting a few more hours for it to warm up before going out for my 16 miler - its still really cold and windy here.

 Happy Birth day Karen! Sorry I'm late!

Jackie- I KNOW how you feel! Sometimes it's so hard to get motivated. My best tip is: make a deal with yourself that you HAVE to do at least 5 min, 1 mile, 1 lap (something that you really can't say no to). Tell yourself that you have to at least do that and you can be done. Then, you won't feel guilty for not doing anything. 99% of the time, you'll just keep going because it does feel good to move. I really find that the hardest part is just getting started! Good luck!:cool1:

:welcome: MickeyT - you have a great attitude! Keep it up! Glad to have you on board!

Okay - My last weekend as a spectator. Did not get my time/miles in as I had hoped because we traveled to State playoffs for our high school girls. And let me tell you... it was worth it! Our girls WON STATE!!!!:woohoo: YEA FALCONS!

So off to run this morning. Will be okay this week then spring breakin it next week. Hope to get on a good training schedule once kids get back to school after break. In the meantime, doing what I can, giving myself a break and enjoying life without stressing about too much!

Have a great week Buzzies!
Jill

P.S. Who stole an hour while I was sleeping last night? I feel like I'm an hour behind..... already!

Hi there, buzzies!

Nice to be checking in and getting new teammates. Mike, you're so inspiring, and I'm super proud of you! Go, Mike! My husband and I run with Team in Training, and we just completed the LA Marathon where 270 runners and walkers raised $650,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma society. I hope you're in touch with LLS in your area. I so love it when we have survivors and their families out completing events with us.

Jackie, you're not alone. I know what usually works for me is what Cynthia (I think) said, and that's just getting out to do 10 minutes/one mile, whatever little chunk that you'll commit to doing. Then you usually find you're out already, why not go farther?

I got out and did 8 miles this morning. I'm no longer training with my team, so it's pretty lonely for me. But I did it in great time for me, 1:45. I was thinking about putting in the miles for my team when I wanted to turn around early...

Welcome new team mates.

Went to pick up new bike this weekend. Got home to lots of new snow so we spent about 30 min shoveling. The neighbors boyfriend was nice enough to plow the majority of the drive. Had to clean off and shovel around 2 cars.

Now I will have to get more bike time in. Last weeks time was not great. Had 221 min and 21.64 miles. Most of time done on stationary bike.

Have been busy at work. THis week will be busy again with a March 15 deadline for corp filings.

Have a great week exercising.

Finally back in town after last week's business trip to Milwaukee. I don't own a laptop. Sorry!

Welcome, MickeyT, happy very belated birthday Karen!

Mileage: 20.
Time: 5:29:15.

No events this week, just time on the treadmill. I think I'm finally out of my slump.

Jackie, I know just how you feel. I usually take the spring off, then really start training again about June. Of course, this year I have the Minnie and I need to train at least a little bit (which, sadly for my team, is precisely what I have done). I did make a deal with myself that I can only buy iced tea on the mornings I did my 3-mile walk (have to start small) and that's helped me boost my mileage. I also made a daily pact with a WISHer buddy to make small changes -- that really helped. I know how slug-like that funk can feel and I wish you lots of pixie dust to get out of it!

:welcome: Hey, MickeyT, look who's on your team!!! :goodvibes Anne
Yep Anne. I knew when I saw you on here I was hooked up with a GREAT team!!!!:yay: Needless to say I got excited!

Hey Leslie! My DSis that inspired (tricked) me into getting involved in this is a trainer for Team. Go Team!

There are six of us coming, five entered with DW cheering us on. We are all so excited.
Well this changed this weekend. My DSis talked my wife into registering for the 1/2 also. She walks her 3 miles daily so......now we are truly a team:dance3::dance3:

Now off to get my miles.......

Welcome Mike/MickeyT!

OK Team I still need numbers from Valentine and Keenercam for last week and Mini Girl for the last two weeks.

OK as for me I've been doing my normal 3 day workout each week. I'm going nuts with the weather and the Blizzard of '08 has made it even worse. I haven't enjoyed running lately and really can't wait to get back outside. Some of you may get this, but when I run in the house I have to deal with Family issues and the heat of our house and can't relax and enjoy my run at all. Give me some warm temps and some sun please! :wizard:

Hiya Buzzies New and Old!!! Please forgive my absence... :worship: :worship: :worship: I have become crazed with rehearsals... My life is no longer my own!!! Anyway.. I see that I dutifully posted on Friday and said hi.. but.. ummm.. again. did not include my miles! Geez.. I must be getting old or something!! Either that or I was just excited to see Cam! :dance3: :dance3: Anyway... My miles for last week were not much.. (maybe I subconsciously didn't post em?? :confused3 )

4 Hours and 6.2 miles

Well.. I am off to a great start this week... I have gotten on the eating well bandwagon. soooo.. I am very proud of myself!!!

So.. welcome to the newbies!!!! Nice to see our little family growing here! :grouphug:

To my fellow captains... feel free to pick up in my absence.. cheer everyone on.. and dole out treats to the kids every now and then! LOL!! Don't worry.. I'm not going anywhere... I just don't seem to make it onto the boards on a daily basis! so.. just in case :)

I have updated the roster on the first page... double check me to make sure I didn't miss anyone!! Just let me know if I did! I also added everyone's first names after their screenname to make it a little easier... Not all of us have such a great knack for names as ANNE does!!! She amazes me!!!

Hugs and love to everyone!!! and set those tazers to run.... :)

Kathy

:cool1:  I DID IT!!!!! :cool1:

I ran today! Thanks to my teammates for your support - I absolutely could not have gotten back out there without all of you with me. And believe me, I think every one of you were with me on the greenway at some point or another. Especially Jill and Leslie - I used your idea and picked a local park that has a half-mile loop, figuring I'd start with one lap and see how it felt and go from there. I ended up doing 3.7 miles! And Anne, how's this for negative splits? 13:23, 11:51, 11:31 (I walked the first lap and the last one, so the last .7 was actually 10:42) I was aiming for around 12:00-13:00 miles, but apparently felt better than I thought!

So there's a 5K Saturday that I'm going to register for as long as I can walk tomorrow - want to make sure there's no hidden damage, but everything feels really good now. My ankle started hurting around 1.5 miles, but I ignored it and started really concentrating on my form and it went away.

Chris - It seems that Ohio has really gotten the worst of the winter this year. Wish I could send you some of our weather. One of the reasons I felt like I HAD to run today was the 60+ degree weather and sunshine! And it's supposed to be like this all week...

Wendy - If I only got iced tea on the days I ran, I'd be dead. Since I don't drink coffee that's my only caffeine fix and it's the only thing that keeps my blood flowing! Maybe a milkshake from Cookout? Or is that somehow a total contradiction... Looks like I'll be signing up for Raleigh Rocks now since I blew off Crystal Coast!

Jill - Congratulations on winning state!

Kathy - I found that bandwagon too. Bought lots of fruit last night at the grocery store. I don't like fruit, so it's a big step for me! Took apples, pineapple, grapes, and clementines to work today!

Gotta go fix dinner before DD pokes her head out of her room to say "what's for dinner?"

Jackie
