Buzz's Brigade Come Flying into Aug-Dec Totals

I recognize you and GoofyinOhio's screen names. It was Aloha Jeff that turned me onto WiSH. I haven't been on the DR boards since the "upgrade payments" began as I had to stretch my racing dollar. :rotfl2:

Glad to be here and ready to record my training!

@Casey = Running with the Army, ... I'm a career Soldier.

Happy Training.

>>>August Mileage so far: 50.2 miles.

Welcome James and Heather. This is where the cool kids hang out.

I know Chris and I also post on the DR board, not sure who else. I also post a very little on the Disney Deads board.

Casey, how cool, running with the Army.

Lisa, you did good - finished! That's what counts. 14 minutes over your goal is nothing! Remember what is on the back of our shirts.

enjoy all,
Duane

Lisa - Congratulations on your Chicago run. I think you did excellent time. I struggle with fast times in the summer, it's just a hard time of year. 2:22 is really good in my book. :thumbsup2

Syko - Huge congrats on your NYC entry!! I am very happy for you.

Heather & James - Welcome! We have a really kind, supportive team. Jump on in.

Allie - No problem! I am glad you are doing well. Summer is a hard time to get in miles, I know the heat makes my time very limited. Happy to see you! Good luck with your 1/2 training.

Chris - Yes, I'm on FB too! I'll see if I can find you.

Everyone have a wonderful weekend. I am running a midnight half marathon Sunday. It's about 2.5 hrs North of Vegas, near area 51. Headlamps, glow sticks, reflective gear required. The course runs entirely on ET hwy which is also an open range with cattle, snakes, coyotes, and possible UFO sightings. :rotfl2: Should be interesting. Here is where we will be running, with an elevation range of 4525-5617.

I just posted my miles and minutes for July over on the other thread.

I've been lazy this week, but will probably start running again this weekend. Instead, I've been planning for my Disneyland trip next month! I'm excited about my Blue Bayou reservations for lunch after the 1/2. I can't wait to try the famous Monte Cristo sandwich.

Casey - Good luck with the race this weekend. I can't remember if I wrote this already, but I stumbled across the Calico Racing site awhile back and was really interested in all the unique races they have. It's too bad I don't live just a tiny bit closer, but it's been fun reading about your experiences at the races.

James - Another Goofy runner added to the team.... NICE :thumbsup2 Again welcome to the team.

Casey - Thanks for Adding me. Good Luck on Sunday and I can't wait to hear about it. That sounds awesome. Oh and Scary!!!

Lisa - I went for the first time last year to do the half and they are to die for. I so can't wait until I can get another one. Just wish they had them again at the World. No Disneyland for me this year.

Just signed up for a half (Don't think I reported that yet) so my October is filling up fast. RFTT, Columbus Half and possibly TOT to get the extra medal. We'll see.

Syko - I some how missed that reply before my bad. It's pretty easy to get into downtown so staying outside and driving in isn't too bad. I think most of the places downtown are already sold out so you may have to drive in anyway. You may want to call the hotels downtown though if you want to get in.

It was pretty cold last year, but I think it was the week before it was warm for that time a year so I guess it's hit or miss.

Happy Running Everyone!!!!

James, I remember you from DR. If I remember you had a strange name for your wife like Unit #7 or something like that. :) Your mileage is going to help for sure, especially this time of the year.

Casey, enjoy the night time run. Calico racing sounds pretty cool - I went and checked them out. What are you running for the Vegas Marathon, the half or full?

See y'all

If it is mileage you seek, then this should help. A local runner named Cecil was doing a personal tri for his 60th B-day. 60 miles running, 60 miles on bike and 60 laps in a lake.
I met up with Cecil and about 25 of his friends and running buddies just before 8 PM at the Infantry Museum for the first loop around Fort Benning. Then, 9 of us set out across Fort Benning for Lawson Army Air Field. On the far side we explored the Creek Indian Nation trade trail across the Chattahoochee river. It was about midnight under an almost full moon and we took a brief cool down swim ... with no gator attacks! We then continued on. Finally, 14 of us headed out across Victory Drive to Columbus proper and Uptown Columbus. We then headed back on the Riverwalk making it back just as dawn was breaking.
All totaled, I knocked back 45.1 miles over night.
It was a great experience and an excellent way leap from Marathon training into Ultra training. I'm felling pretty good and had a few naps today to charge the batteries up a bit. No leg or joint pain ... but I think I'll take the rest of today off and go on a recovery run tomorrow.

I sent "Household-6" your regards. ('6' is the military call sign of a commander.)

Happy Running! :cool1:

HI Buzz's Brigade.

After some confusion (mostly on my part) I've learned that I should be over on this team. I just started, even though I did want to join WISH in February.

I raced in the Mickey for 2009, and will be returning for the Goofy in 2010. I hope to help this team out, as I usually do get a fair amount of mileage per week/month.

Happy to be here, and ready to serve!

-James

James, I'm so glad you found your way to your new home, and that the confusion was fleeting and hopefully not too traumatic. :upsidedow I know you'll love the Buzzies, but don't hesitate to drop by to say hi to the Warriors--or to your cousins at 'Ohana for the matter. :woohoo:

Hey Everyone!
First off :welcome: James and Heather.
Sounds like we've got a lively group together!
Just got back from Da World with the family. If I can do that a marathon will be a piece of cake. Seriously we had a blast.

Posted my meager totals over on July thread.

All I can say is 'Man it sure is hot in Florida (and SC) in August'. Right Duane:). Will start to ramp up my training as much as possible now. Fun reading about all the races you all have lined up. Inspiration! Stay healthy everybody and race safe.

Casey - Saw your pics on FB! That looked really cool! Just not sure I would want to run in the middle of the night. ;)

Welcome James!!! :grouphug: I've been a MIA Buzzie for the summer, but plan to be back on board since school starts tomorrow! :scared1::banana: Seven hours to myself.....:cloud9: :rotfl:

Chris - If you need help, I'm friends with Jusacuz (Jessica) on FB. :rolleyes1

What's up Buzzies. Two days of no posts so I have to come in to get it going again. :thumbsup2

Got 4 Miles in last night in what felt like a Sana. Wasn't too bad, but got it done. Got my first double digit run in last Saturday in 10 miles so I'm happy with that. It had been since my half in May since I did double digits so I was a little nervous.

Hope everyone is doing well!

As I posted on FB, my set of morning runs today was blah, blah, blah.

No injuries, almost 7 miles, and a lot of sweat, so there were some pluses. The heat of GA just made running like swimming standing up. On the plus side also was finding a new water cooler point on the golf course. I wonder how long they'll keep filling it up ... it was full of ice cold water!

Forgot to log yesterdays mileage of 6.3 miles in to the PT field, around the PT area, and back to the house.

Happy Training

Hi Buzzies! And welcome to our new teammates! It is great to have you here!

Like everyone else I've had a busy summer and now I am counting down until the official start of my Goofy training (Aug 24th). So, I should be having some bigger numbers to report soon! Until then...

To Infinity And Beyond.......

I miss a few days and have lots to catch up on!!!!!

Thanks for all the congratulations.

:welcome: James, you will certainly be adding high milage!!!!

Casey How did your area 51 run go??? Any U.F.O. sightings???? I also asked about the run with the devil 50m and they said that I could enter......now its just trying to work out if I can do the road trip next year.

Chris I guess I will need cold gear then :rotfl2:I will decide next week if I am going to do it.

As for me, eventhough the parts turned up, I do not have enough to get back on the road, but I should have had enough for the indoor trainer......except they forgot to put in the screws!!!!
I have tried Lowes and Depot but neither of them sell the right ones, my DH called the company and they told him to try an auto shop, so thats next.
If we still can't find them I need to call the company back next week and they will send some out....they're in NYC at the moment so can't.

I am now sponsored by Spira!!! I could not beleive that a running shoe company would want to sponsor a crank, but they did.:woohoo:

I still have a couple of companys that I am in talks with and we are almost there on a deal, but untill its in the bag i'm not going to say who they are.....but I should be getting my racing wheels :yay:

WOW! Lots of posts. My wife was out of town for 10 days, I had a free pass to Universal and my Birthday was Wednesday. Soooo, off to Orlando I went. Scored a cheap hotel right at the gate to Universal in the tune of $30 a night.

Took off of work Monday around 3:30 got to Orlando a little after 6, ate some dinner then ran over and around Universal. Tuesday morning I was the first person in Islands of Adventure and the first person in the front seat of the HULK! Had a blast. Rode everything multiple times. Took a break for lunch and shower then over to the Studios for the rest of the day. Boy it was hot. I mean sweat dripping down your face type hot! Closed the park at 9:30 ish.

Wednesday drove to Disney and scored my free pass. Nothing like something for free from Disney. Got a nice pin with my name and Happy Birthday on it which got me many "Happy Birthday Duane" comments from the Cast Members. My access pass was also a happy birthday pass. Very nice touch! Didn't know Space Mountain was closed. Bummer. Either way had a great day. Did pretty much everything including riding the paddle wheel boat and going over to the island. Left the park soaking wet again around 1:00. Went to Downtown Disney for about an hour until I had to come home.

What a great 2 days! people asked "your going to Universal and Disney alone"? Sure, it was a nice change. I could ride what I wanted as many times as I wanted and no one was waiting for me. Would I want to do it all the time? Heck no but once every few years is pretty cool.

Have a great day,
Duane

What was going to be a bleak workout morning I was able to turn into a great workout that I am very happy with. First speedwork session I've done in 3 weeks!
Started out as a "ho hum" PT day. Little 1/2 mile run to the stadium. Pus...h-ups, abs, then I got to hit the track. It was very busy today with people from all different units running intervals or the stairs.
After a warm up lap, I started to feel my mojo and formulated an interval workout. If all my running / blogging friends had not been speedwork lately, I don't think I could have done this on my own!

Warm up 0.26 Mi 1:51.67
Interval 1 0.26 Mi 1:24.32 Not bad
Recovery 0.13 Mi 0:59.55
Interval 2 0.26 Mi 1:23.28 Getting my groove
Recovery 0.12 Mi 1:02.95
Interval 3 0.26 Mi 1:23.45 Even split?
Recovery 0.13 Mi 1:03.38
Interval 4 0.26 Mi 1:23.24 Even split again ... I'll do two more
Recovery 0.12 Mi 1:06.3
Interval 5 0.26 Mi 1:21.12 Was dodging people on the track
Recovery 0.13 Mi 1:07.62
Interval 6 0.26 Mi 1:21.76 Still maintaining my speed! This is insane.
Recovery 0.49 Mi 4:03.3

6x400's with half distance active recovery. I had pretty even splits, and I was getting faster, though I was feeling it. What's up with that?

T: 71; H 93%; W: 165 $

hey all you Face book experts. How do you find people on Face book? Need to know first and last name I assume? There are many people on this board that I know but don't know by full name. Heck, some of them I don't even know there real name, just the screen name.

thanks,
Duane Rice (on face book) :)

Hi Buzz team! I just got back from a quick trip to Disneyland. (My DH and I took the kids on Wed.) Now, the countdown is on for the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon.

The ET 1/2 marathon was awesome! Thank you for all the luck/well wishes. It was a totally bizarre experience but one that I will never forget. I am so glad I did it and would do it again next year. The 1st 6.5 miles were uphill, one big hill. So, that slowed me down. The last half was all downhill, which was great. The only problem was that my eyes thought the downhill looked like uphill, it was just odd. I kept asking my husband, are you sure we're not running uphill? :lmao: I remember looking at the time on my Garmin at 2 am and thinking, this is nuts! (The 1/2 started at 12:30 am) I didn't spot any UFO's but there were a lot of shooting stars. I'm glad my husband stayed with me the whole time, it was very dark but I felt plenty safe on the course. We crossed the finish in 2:13. I would have liked a sub 2:00 time but this just wasn't a PR course for me. After the race, all racers were treated to a breakfast at the Little A'LE'INN. What a strange place in the middle of nowhere. I will post a few photos from the race in a little bit.

Lisa - I hope you can still do a Calico race sometime eventhough it's a bit far for you. They do some really neat events. The next 1/2 they are doing is on Halloween at Hoover Dam. You run through the 6 tunnels(formerly railroad tunnels). It's a cool run! How far from Vegas are you? If I remember correctly, are you in AZ?

Chris - Great job on getting in that 10 miler! That's not easy to do in the summer with heat and humidity. I saw you mention the Monte Cristo on FB. What exactly is it and where do they sell it. I've seen people mention this before but I've never had it.

Duane - Happy two day long Birthday! You really know how to celebrate! :lmao: I would have no problem doing all that alone if no one could go with me. You did good on the room rate/location and birthday Disney pass. Sounds like it was a pleasant little trip!

DH and I are planning to run the Vegas RNR Full. Unless something happens causing us to not be ready, we'll do the half instead. I'm hoping the full since it's a flatter course and good racing temps. What distance will you be doing? As for Facebook, I usually find wishers through other wishers on there. I will look you up!

Mike - Glad you had a great Disneyworld trip!

Syko - Huge congrats on your Spira sponsor! That is wonderful news! I hope the other sponsorship possibilites work out for you too. The parts arriving is a nice bit of news as well. That is a bummer about the missing screws, though. Hopefully you can get those missing screws located asap! I'm glad that you have the okay to compete in the Devil 50 miler next year. It is an insane race, with those 110+ degree temps but it was still fun to me. You'll have to keep me posted next year if you come to town.

James - Great job on all those runs. Those are some super fast times on your speedwork run. You're defintely helping to increase the team mileage/hours. Do you have a running blog?

Awesome news! Fingers are crossed for other sponsors and for the missing parts.

Duane I am on FB, but being techie-challenged I didn't find anybody, they found me. There's a WISH team group on FB too, but I was just over there and darned if I could find it. Sometimes it is in the column on the right of the screen, but if it isn't there I am clueless on how to track it down. I have mixed feelings about FB and ning....on one-hand they have some cool things, but on the other I think sometimes people are posting over there instead of here and I miss things. I know that at a couple of events I've done one of the group is posting on FB in real time, so that by time I get home doing a trip report seems like old news. I do like being able to see on FB what my kids (all adults) are up to - well, at least most of the time I like it. A few times...:scared1:

Aloha Jeff and Tracy could steer you in the right direction about WISH on FB.

Happy Weekend to everyone else.

Hi All,
thanks for finding me on Face Book :)

Chris, you inspired me. I haven't run double digits for quite some time. I'm thinking April time frame. Usually I just go up to 8 miles as I haven't been training for anything. Did 10 today, not too hot so it was OK. Well not too hot for S Florida in August!

Casey, I am doing the half at Vegas. I just want to run the strip. The rest of the course doesn't do anything for me. Probably a greater reason is that I will already be in Vegas for 9 nights by that time and I won't be in peak shape :) I don't want a full hanging over my head while I am on vacation. I can do a half pretty easily (since I will be in the final stages of Goofy training) so I don't really have to watch what I eat, drink, etc. You will do great! I think it is awesome that your husband runs with you. If I remember, he can be pretty fast when he wants to.

Pat you are doing the half with me right?

I'll be in Costa Rica until Thursday so I probably won't be around for a few days. For business not fun. City not country. Next time I'll schedule some extra time.
enjoy,
Duane
