Buzz Lightyear Spin vs TSMM

Isn't it basically the same ride? My kids love the Buzz ride in MK but we never go to DHS. DS (8) just heard about TSMM and now can talk of nothing else for our NOVEMBER trip. Why is there such a demand for TSMM over Buzz? Curious...

1. No. You could say they both allow you to shoot at targets from your vehicle, but that's about it.

2. Because it's better. Seriously though, the technology is far more advanced on TSM and the experience is completely different.

TSM sees longer waits because it is one of only a very few family-friendly attractions at DHS that appeals to all ages. (Contrast that with Buzz at MK.) TSM is also a slow loader, while Buzz is an omnimover and people-eater.

We don't even bother to ride Buzz - you just sit there and shoot and try to tell which laser is yours. TSM on the other hand we will schedule at least 4 mornings at DHS so we can ride TSM one or more times. It rocks.

For TSM you're in a car with 2 shooters on each side. The shooters that are on the same side are different colors so you can tell which one is yours (red/ blue or yellow / green). On some things you shoot darts, others rings etc. There are several different screens to go through - you can work with your partner to try to get more points or you can each go out on your own so to speak - TONS OF FUN!

Warning this ride is highly addictive!

In my opinion, toy story is like buzz on steroids....and way better!!!

The effects and visuals are cooler, the targets are easier to hit, its faster paced, and way more fun!

We really enjoyed both, but my children consistently ask to ride Toy Story Mania again as soon as the ride is over, even my son who doesn’t yet play the game. The main things for us that are different

You don’t have to control your vehicle on TSM. This is particularly something I notice because I generally have one arm around my son during the ride.

TSM is 3D

It is easier to aim and hit targets on TSM. Like some other poster mentioned, it is kind of difficult to see where your laser is on Buzz.

You can see how much the targets are worth in points in TSM and you know if you've hit it.

We had never been on either ride and this last trip we took in November we did both.

The Toy story Mania at Hollywood studios was much more fun. Screen technology and the way you fire the balls with a pull string makes it a great experience.

I saw the line for the TSM and I thought why are these rides so popular. It is really a lot of fun and now I understand why it is so popular.

The Buzz light year one is a good time but the TSM is better. You will understand why when you do it, kind of hard to explain.

To me, there is not much of a difference, but TSM does have better technology your son will absolutely love it though if he loves Buzz, I really don't see the hype of it, it is a very cute ride, but as others have said there arent' many family friendly "rides" I would say Great Movie Ride and the Backlot Tour are family friendly and actual rides, but a lot of shows in DHS. You should take him in November DHS is my favorite park next to MK. Enjoy!

I like Buzz better at DLR because the gun is moveable, which increases the fun =)

I prefer the "real" experience of Buzz to the 3D screen experience of TSMM, but my husband likes TSMM much better. I beat him at Buzz nearly every time and he beats me at TSMM nearly every time, so that probably has something to do with our preferences.

If you have a Wii (or maybe other video game system) at home, try out the Toy Story Midway Mania video game. It used to be at RedBox, not sure if it's still there. It'll give you a basic idea of what the ride is all about. Of course, the home game is lacking the 3D, water and air burst effects, 60-90 minute waits, and moving ride vehicles. But still, you'll get an idea of how it's different from Buzz.

Totally the same. Pirates of the Caribbean is a rip-off of It's a Small World and Space Mountain is the same ride as the Matterhorn. Don't even bother.

BUT Pirates does not have a 10 minute song loop... and they have at least a story behind....kind of...

When I was Buzz (the only time), our ride got stuck for a good 5 minutes and everyone was shooting at things and gaining so many point while I had no idea where I was shooting and got no points.....when I was TS I almost beat everyone in my party!

I actually prefer Buzz. HOnestly I think it's because two out of the four times we road TSM something went wrong. The first time, they didn't tell us to split our family of four into two cars and actually encouraged us all to squish in one. Obviously that didn't end well! We started off letting the kids do it and then we realized how neat it was and wanted a turn but the kids were too into it at that point. Oh well. Live and learn. Then another of the times, I dropped my 3D glasses somehow. Bleh. That ride is really not fun without them!

Buzz on the other hand, we just have such good memories of that ride. We have been on it too many times to count.

I know TSM is really the better ride but we just have enjoyed Buzz so much more. Maybe a big part of it is that there's never a huge line and you don't feel all stressed up getting in line right at RD? I don't know.

I definitely preferred TSM because of the aiming system. You can see what you're hitting and if you need to adjust your aim or not.

For Buzz just locating your little dot was difficult. Not to say I didn't enjoy Buzz. Our ride picture turned out pretty funny because both my friend and I we were concentrating so hard on if we were hitting something or not. My friend also let me control the ride vehicle so I enjoyed swinging it back and forth (I tried not to disrupt too many of her shots but sometimes I just wanted to face the other way ).

I stuck my 3D glasses on my head the first time I rode TSMM & forgot to put them on my face. I did better that time than any other time I've ridden it. I did like it better than Buzz but I think it's the colors and that it's brighter along with being more interactive.

I like tham both. I max out Buzz every time that I get a working gun - probably 8 out of 10 rides. The key to Buzz is to look where you want the gun to shoot and trust your hand/eye coordination. I don't look for my "dot", I don't "aim" along the top of the gun - I just sit up straight and let my hands point the gun where my eyes are looking.

TSMM is a little tougher and you have to work with your car partner to really rack up the points. My goal on TSMM is to get the highest score for the day. I have only done it once, but I get close often and NOT achieving that goal actually makes it more addictive.

At our last trip my son and I were among the first to ride TSMM. We were amazed by a high score that someone had already posted (had to be the first 5-10 cars). My son figured it was this 20ish looking fellow (no, he wasn't particularly nerdy looking in case you're wondering ). Sure enough, the guy said he came to the park 2-3 times per month to rack up some crazy score at TSMM. He confirmed that working together with a partner there are lots of ways to "unlock" higher-scoring targets. Obviously most people are only tapping into about 10% of the ride's potential (but who cares -- it's a blast no matter what). I haven't checked myself, but my son said there are lots of tip sheets on the internet (ways to unlock bonus points). This is all old news, but certainly relevant in any TSMM vs Buzz conversation.

TSMM doesn't have that "divorce joystick" in the middle like Buzz does .

I haven't read any of the replies but...

NO! They are not the same ride.

I tried out Buzz on my last trip for the first time because I had extra time and it had a low wait.

I'm sure one day when I have a child, I'll be forced to get on it again. I have to say that it is my least favorite ride in all of WDW. I found the shooting mechanism difficult to use and I could never figure out which laser was mine (you can see the lasers of several people as you're moving through the ride).

On TSMM, you only share the screen with the other person in your car. The shooting mechanism is easy to use, and you can distinctly tell which ball/ring/arrow/etc. is yours. Oh yeah...you get to shoot at different types of targets with different objects.

TSMM is definitely not my favorite ride by any means. But I ride it every time I go and I thoroughly enjoy it. I'd recommend it a million times over Buzz.
