Our story:
Friday - June 7th
Wow, our trip was going fast. This was our last full day of touring! Buzz wanted to eat breakfast in the food court, so the Mouse called at 7:13. Buzz showered while I got ready for a day at MGM. With refillable mugs in hand, we ventured into the food court for some breakfast. Buzz and I both ordered the French Toast and Egg combo ($10.58). I thought the French Toast was very dry and the eggs were runny, but we were both too hungry to care. After returning the mugs to the room, we were at the bus stop by 8:45.
The bus stops were very, very crowded. It is amazing how getting there 15 minutes later than usual can make such a huge difference. After a few minutes, 2 busses pulled up for the MK, which helped reduce the crowds considerably. We waited about 15 minutes for an MGM bus, which was standing room only (this turned out to be our longest wait of the trip for a bus coming to or leaving from POR). The security checks didnt bother me at any of the other parks, but for some reason, they were always backed up at MGM in the morning. Because they barely even check, it was more of an irritant than anything else at MGM. But we got through by 9:20 and were in the park.
I was craving a thrill, so we joined the crowds heading down Sunset Boulevard. We grabbed Fast Passes for Rockn Rollercoaster and then got in the standby line for Tower of Terror (posted 20 minute wait). I actually dont mind waiting for this ride because it has such a detailed and interesting queue. To save Buzz some embarrassment, I held my tongue when the man behind us told his girlfriend that the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland opened up at the same time not quite! We had a lovely free fall and plenty of time before our Rockn Rollercoaster window opened up.
Buzz and I browsed through the shops on Sunset Boulevard to kill time. He found some pins and a keychain he liked in the sports shop, so I made a mental note to stop back before we left for the day. We headed over to the Little Mermaid and grabbed Fast Passes as soon as our window opened up. Then we walked back and rode the Rockn Rollercoaster. It really is a rather tame roller coaster after the take off, but I just cant get enough of 0 to 60 in less than 3 seconds. We also make a point of rolling our hands over the marble door everytime we ride
We didnt want to risk doing another attraction and miss our Little Mermaid return time (it is only a 10 minute window), so we did the 100 years of Magic Kiosks under the hat. Did I mention how much I love these! We then did the Mermaid show with a 10 minute wait in the air conditioned lobby. I thought this show was pretty good, but it seemed so short. Buzz was very impressed with the puppet handlers during the first song. Also, the part with Ursula was kind of frightening, and some of the children around us were scared. By this point, Buzz was getting hungry, so we decided to leave and get some lunch.
I had heard plenty of praise on the boards about Beaches and Cream at the Beach Club, so we decided to go there for lunch. A boat was just loading at the MGM dock, so we got on and were at the Yacht and Beach club in several minutes. Buzz was impressed with the resorts in this area, so hopefully I can convince him to stay here on the honeymoon! We found Beaches and Cream and got a great view of Stormalong Bay, which looks really neat!
We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table so Buzz played some games in the arcade next door. I dont know why I didnt think to sit at the counter, but it was no big deal to wait. This place is very small, but I liked the relaxed feel it had. Buzz ordered a burger and fries while I had a burger and fruit. We also shared an order of onion rings. The food was VERY good and our bill came to $27.27 with tip. We had planned on ordering ice cream, but we were too stuffed. A group of five conventioners were sitting at the table next to us, and the waitress convinced them to order the kitchen sink. This was pretty neat to see, especially the fanfare they made when they brought it out. I made sure to snap a picture of the concoction. They put a pretty good dent in it before they left.
We got a boat that was pulling in and didnt realize we got on the wrong one and were heading to Epcot. No big deal, we would just catch a bus back to our resort from there.
We walked through Epcot and waited about 5 minutes at the bus stop for a bus. We were back at the resort by 2:30, so I went to guest services to pay off a portion of our room charge. We were back in our room when some thunderstorms rolled through and it rained pretty good. After some needed rest, we were back at the bus stop by 4:30 and waited about 3 minutes for a bus to MGM.
I had originally planned on doing the MK tonight, but we had left MGM pretty early this morning. Buzz decided that we had devoted enough time to the MK, and since we have to do this park last the day we leave (for me of course), he wanted to go back to MGM. I was happy to oblige, so we returned to a wet evening in MGM. I had three things left to accomplish yet in MGM; the Animation Tour, The Walt Disney Exhibit and the Hunchback show. I was disappointed when the times schedule showed that the Hunchback did not play on Fridays.
We headed straight for the Animation Tour when we entered the park. This is one of my favorite attractions at Walt Disney World. Even though the movie at the beginning is dated, I really enjoy it. Also, the Treasure Planet and other movies in development all look like they are going to be really good. Our animator drew Stitch and mainly talked about Lilo and Stitch. By this time in the day, the animators had gone home, but the tour was still interesting. I also forgot to mention that they had a neat photo opportunity with the Lilo and Stitch characters in the queue area. No one was around, so Buzz and I posed for pictures. Stitch borrowed my spray fan and attacked the CM standing with them. It was cute and the picture turned out well!
By the time the tour ended, it had started to rain again, so we headed over to the Great Movie ride with a 5 minute wait. I must admit, this ride is really lame. We got the mobster scene again. The front two cars must get the Cowboy scene, because they stop in that room while we stop in the gangster room. I will try to get in the front two cars next time!
By this time, Buzz wanted some dinner, so we tried to find a counter service place. The ABC Commissary was right next door, so we headed there. Well, the menu looked DISGUSTING! We couldnt find anything we were hungry for. I am sure this place isnt that bad, but we just werent in the mood for that type of food. A quick look at the map showed that our only other real option for counter service food was the Backlot Express so we headed over there. Buzz ordered a hot dog and Fries while I just had Fries and a coke ($11.83). MGM really doesnt have a large selection of counter service restaurants from which to choose from!
By the time we finished eating, it was raining much harder, but the park had really emptied out. We headed over to One Mans Dream because we knew we could stay dry and it was a top priority for me. I really enjoyed all the exhibits and really took my time walking through. I think I read every single placard. We were just entering the last room when they announced a last call for the movie. We quick ran in and saw the movie, which was very good as well. Then, the CM allowed us to go back through the theater entrance doors to see the last room after the movie had ended. My favorite part of the exhibit was the theme park models! We spent over an hour in this attraction.
Buzz had been eyeing up the candy apples in the parks the whole week, so we decided to get some. The candy shop was out of candy apples though, so we settled for caramel apples and a giant soft pretzel. Both hit the spot! Since the park was so empty, we decided to hit the thrill rides again for the last time on the trip. So, we headed down and rode Rockn Rollercoaster with a 20 minute standby time. Then we walked onto Tower of Terror. When we got off, we ran back in and got on the last ride of the night! We had a great view of the Earful Watertower all lit up. On the way out, there was a hilarious picture of a CM who must have gone up in the elevator right after us for a solo trip. It made everyone laugh!
It was still raining out, but Fantasmic was running. I tried to convince Buzz to go in to see the show again, but he said once was enough for this trip. So, we trekked out to the bus stop to beat the Fantasmic crowds. A bus was waiting at the stop, and it didnt leave until it filled up about 5 minutes later. We were back at the resort by 9:30 so we got some packing done for our departure the next day. Boy the suitcases filled up after all of our souvenir purchases. I showered, and we were in bed by 11:00.
