Dates: June 1st June 8th, 2002
Our story:
Wednesday - June 5th
Today was a well-deserved rest and non-park day. Therefore, it gave us a chance to sleep in a little after our late E-ride night the night before. The Mouse called at 8:13 am, and Buzz hopped in the shower. No drink runs for me today because we were going out for breakfast.
We made it to Boatwrights at our resort by 9:00 am for our PS. I noticed that the lobby of our resort was packed, and then I remembered that it was the Character Caravan. I ran up to see which characters were there, and they were Minnie, Goofy and Meeko. From the looks of it, this is a very popular addition that Disney has added. I hope that Disney can keep the Character Caravan and reinstate early entry at least at the Magic Kingdom.
Boatwrights was a nice restaurant. It was pretty full for Breakfast, so I would definitely make a PS. It never looked full for dinner though when we walked by. I ordered the banana stuffed French Toast and Buzz had the All-you-can-eat skillet. With two juices and tip our bill came to $24.82. Our meal was good, however the service was very slow. This kind of surprised me considering this is a Disney Restaurant, and you would think they want you in and out so you can spend more money in the parks.
We went back to the room to get our gear, and then we headed to the transportation stop. A Typhoon Lagoon/Downtown Disney bus was waiting at the stop, and we hopped on. Even though this was supposed to be a relaxing day, we still chose to do a water park. Neither of us enjoy slides that much, so when we go to a water park, we mainly stick to the lazy river and wave pool. In our opinion, Typhoon Lagoon is also a very beautiful park, so we chose it over Blizzard Beach.
We got to Typhoon Lagoon around 10:45 and the place was PACKED. There were only a few more rows left at the back of the parking lot. We had a hard time finding chairs; we finally found some on the beach near the kiddie slide. I then realized that I had forgotten to bring sunblock! Buzz had a nice base tan, so he wasnt too worried but I didnt have a base tan. We knew then that we wouldnt be able to stay long.
We quickly decided not to bother with any of the slides because of how crowded it was. We hopped into the wave pool and went out to the deep end where it was less crowded to enjoy the 6-foot waves. After a few rounds, we decided to take a lap in the lazy river. The river was very congested, and we walked through about half of it before we were able to secure two tubes. We took another lap and a half before we got out and headed back into the wave pool for the bobbing waves. Then, when they returned to the big waves, we used the water camera to take some action shots with the waves coming toward us. They turned out pretty good.
We got out of the wave pool and sat on our chairs to dry off a little. We decided that we were burning to a crisp so we decided to leave after only 2 hours. We had gotten burnt on a trip to the Jersey Shore one time, and it wasnt very fun, so we decided not to take any chances. I changed in the changing room and we waited about 1 minute before a bus came to take us back to Port Orleans Riverside.
We were back at the resort by 1:15 so we decided to eat lunch in the food court. Buzz had a turkey sub and cottage cheese while I had a large garden salad ($11.73). Buzz wanted to go to the arcade so we found it and he played some games while I walked around the resort to take pictures. Buzz said that he liked the Port Orleans Riverside arcade better than the one at the All-star Movies. We then went back to the room and took a two-hour nap in the A/C.
When we first decided that we were going on this trip, I had made reservations at the Hoop Dee Doo Revue dinner show. We showered and dressed and were at the bus stop by 5:45 as a bus for the Magic Kingdom was pulling up. When we got to the MK, a boat was docking for Fort Wilderness, so we hurried over and got right on (see, we were SO lucky with our transportation. I would also suggest taking the boat from the Magic Kingdom to the HDDR. The dock is very close to Pioneer Hall and the boats are easier to navigate than Fort Wildernesss internal transportation system.
We browsed in the shop and then checked in for our 7:15 reservation. We were seated in the second row of tables on the left hand side of the stage, so we had excellent seats. We both thought that the food was very good and they brought us a huge pitcher of beer. At the beginning of the show, the one performer stopped at our table to chat and ask where we were from. Later, for the grand finale, they picked four people out of the audience to go up on stage and participate in the show. Well, guess who got selected? BUZZ!!!!! He hates being the center of attention, so this was his worst nightmare. But he was in the Disney spirit, so he went up and played the part of the Indian. He was so funny and you would never have known that he hates being in front of people. I was mad that we hadnt brought along the video camera, but I took tons of pictures. At the end, they gave him a certificate and a Polaroid picture of him on stage. He missed eating the dessert though, so this upset him a little. Our total for the show and dinner with the Disney Club discount was $86 and some cents.
After the show, we hopped onto one of the waiting Fort Wilderness internal busses to go to the Outpost where we transferred to a Downtown Disney bus that was just pulling in. We got to Downtown Disney around 9:45 and headed to the World of Disney. We like to browse at all the shops in the park, and then go to the World of Disney in the middle of our trip to make all our purchases at once. This way, we can keep track of what we are spending, and not have to lug purchases around the parks. Also, since I have the Disney Club, I was able to save over $20 with the discount. Anything that we couldnt find here, we can get in the parks when we go back the rest of the week.
After shopping for over an hour, we decided we were too tired to go to Pleasure Island. We caught a bus back to POR after about a 5 minute wait. Our bus driver, Mark, was the best we ever had. He asked where we were from, and when we said Reading, PA, he knew all sorts of stuff about it. He also sang songs, told jokes and asked trivia questions, which made the bus ride very enjoyable. We were back at the resort and in bed by 12:30, which made this another late night.
