Buzz and Woody more beloved than Mickey Mouse

My DD is five. She loves Woody, Buzz and Jesse. But she loves Mickey as much or more.

On our trip last week, she opted to meet Mickey & Minnie twice but didn't meet Woody or Buzz at all.

My 3.5yo is way more excited about meeting Phineas and Ferb, Monsters Inc. guys, and Buzz and Woody vs. Mickey. I was showing him different M&G photos for an upcoming Dec trip, and he said he didn't want to meet Mickey. Hmmm...everyone else was cool, though.

I am a pediatric nurse and I was so sad when I asked a 3 yr old boy if he wanted a Mickey mouse sticker and he said " no, I want Spider man."

It just hurt my heart.
:sad2:

My kids were excited to meet Mickey but I do think my boys were more excited about Buzz and Woody (and Jessie). It's normal though as they watch Toy Story more than Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (we don't have cable so no Disney Jr for us). We do regularly check out Mickey cartoons from the library though or watch the ones available through Netflix to try to keep Mickey (and gang) on their radar screens.

My oldest ds is 5 and thankfully, he isn't into Superheros at all. He does love the Star Wars characters even though he's never seen the movie and WDW has so much of that merchandise, he wanted those items for souvenirs which made me sad.

2yr old D niece loves her Mickey plush and her talking Buzz Lightyear and she has never seen either 'on the TV' since she wasn't allowed to watch any TV til she turned 2. and even now she sees very little because the same rule applies to her little brother.

Her favorite movies are "Mr Incredible!" & "Nemo Fish!" But she refuses to watch Monsters Inc. go figure.
She knew both Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck when I drew them for her (I'm a lousy artist). And she knows most of the words to the Mickey Mouse Club song - the "who's the leader of the band..." one.

Not in my house! My girls can't wait to see their friends Mickey and Minnie again. They want to bring their stuffed dolls for them to sign. They haven't mentioned woody or Jessie lately.

But there is excitement about all things princess

I think we are trying to compare apples to oranges. I love Buzz and Woody, but in 25 years, they will be thought of as the characters from a classic series of movies and centerpieces in a ride which utilized dated technology. Mickey will still be the beloved ambassador to the Disney brand.

Seven years ago I would have agreed with this totally... but the introduction of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse reintroduced the beloved classic characters to the younger set. When my older kids were little there was a gap between the end of House of Mouse and the beginning of MMCH, it was hard to show kids Mickey -- there wasn't all this streaming content of old shorts and things that's available now!

To most kids (10 and under) that visit WDW?

"It was all started by a mouse"

I'm not sure Mickey was ever the favorite character of either of my children, but he certainly was always the character they "expected" to see around when they were there. DS always liked Goofy and DD's fave is "Minnie" and a few of the princesses. i still think that while a lot of kids may have favorite characters, Mickey and the rest of the fab 5 are what it means to be Disney.

My children always were into the history of the Disney machine. They have done school projects on the company, Walt and some of the specific technologies. For younger children the characters they see on TV and movies at the time are most likely the favorites.

My 2 DGS (both 2) love Mickey Mouse. The Mickey House Playhouse is their favorite show.
