Buying trading pins on ebay - question

We're going to Disney in June and I'd love for my boys to do the pin trading while we are there. I plan on buying some on ebay to try and save some money, and I'm looking for some tips. We're also going with my DH's family, so I'll probably be buying some for my nieces and nephews as well.

Here are my questions:

Are there certain types I should try to avoid?
What are the best types of pins to try and find?

Our eight yr. old son has been trading since he was 4 and he loves it! Before every trip I buy him some pins on www.mousepinsonline.com. You can buy Grab bags of pins and it always works out great! You save so much money doing it this way and you get some really awesome pins!

Also, our son is really into collecting "Cast member" pins - these are pins with little mickey's on them. They are given to only cast members. He also likes the "hidden mickey" pins as well. Another good tip - we only allow him to trade with Cast Members. He has gotten burned by a few pin traders in the past - so we only let him trade with cast members now........

I have bought pins on ebay for the past few years and have not had any trouble trading them. You want to look for a seller that has a strong positive selling history and someone who only sells "Official Disney trading pins", they will tell you that each pin will have the official logo on the back of the pin with a plastic mickey head backing. They should not be propins, sedesma pins, or eurodisney pins.

As stated by the previous poster, the cast member pins are a popular sought after pin, my kids always check theirs before they trade them because they like to collect those. Also trading with only cast members is advised. Like the previous poster we also only let our children trade with CMs.

Thanks! I'll check out mousepinsonline tonight. I'll also make sure the ones I buy on ebay are official pins.

Is there somewhere I can see what a CM pin looks like? Just so I know what I'll be looking for when I'm there?

I second mousepinsonline. i have bought from them a few times and never have any issues. The cost is about 1.50 to 2.00 a pin based off of the lot size. I have tried ebay and have been out bid and this made it so much easier.

When you are on ebay just search under "Cast Member" or " Hidden Mickey" pins while searching under disney pins and you can see what they look like.....they are cool and fun to collect....My son's favorites are the monorail series......

Caution is advised when making eBay purchases. It's really hard to gauge the authenticity of pins on eBay and many times I have made purchases only to get the "authentic" Disney pins and realize they are scrappers. Scrappers are pins that did not pass QC and were "scrapped", unfortunately these pins tend to make onto the market via eBay. Now, I do not mean to say in any way that all eBay pin sellers are selling bad pins, I've made many an amazing purchase from eBay and used the pins as traders with no problems. Just be aware that you may get pins that aren't as good as you thought they were. I've purchased from mousepinsonline.com and been very pleased with the pins we've received from them. I also have a small list of sellers that I deal with but they rarely do "lots" of pins, what I do is watch the auctions and place a maximum bid, if I win them great, if not I move on. I don't like to pay more than a few dollars for traders so that is what works well for me.

I'll "third" mousepinsonline.com also! I just bought a 25 pack of pins from them (with a free lanyard), and we are very, very pleased with what we got. A nice combo of cast pins, hidden mickey pins, etc.
