Buying tickets before trip planned?

I saw that Disney would be increasing ticket prices in August. We are not planning on going to Disney for several years and when we do go, will stay off site. Should I consider buying tickets now to save on the price increases? Given the dismal interest rates I'm not sure if I would be better off saving the money or going ahead and buying tickets?

Any opinions?

I think the normal increase is around 4%. As long as you get tix that will not expire (or are not "activated" until you use them), I would do it if I had the money. I'm sure others will very much disagree but the way I see things is that sometimes "life" gets in the way & other expenses may come up in the next few years before you go . Knowing you have the expense of the tix paid for would be a plus (& more of a reason to make the trip a reality).

Personally, I will be buying vouchers for our AP's in the next 2 weeks. We are lucky & get to go every year (sometimes 2x) & knowing those tix are out of the way makes us more likely to do DDP or some other little splurge that we wouldn't do if we were paying for an entire trip at once....

I know I'm not going to get 4% interest on my money. I have a savings account that has $$ in it to use for vacations so it's not like I don't have the $$. I may just buy one or two tickets now. I know we will eventually go since I have a Disney Visa and am earning rewards $$. Those will be spent on souveniers and food while there.

Since the day is quickly approaching does anyone else have an opinion on this?

Thanks!

We did exactly this for our big family trip back in 2008. My mom needed to buy 17 tickets...all 7-day hoppers with the water parks included.

She bought the tickets in 2003, five full years before they were needed. It was a way for her to spread the expense out AND save the increase price of 17 tickets.

I just wanted to follow up on this since I did buy the tickets when I originally posted. If you price the tickets today, I have saved about $240! There have been two price increases since I bought them! We're not planning on going until 2013 so by then I will have saved more!!

My dad did the same thing. He's treating the family in 2012 but has been planning the trip since 2007! The family is still growing...the last one isn't due to join us until November 5:lovestruc)...but dad has already stockpiled 14 6-day park-hoppers.
