Is this considered an advance purchase (as in cheaper)? We are leaving on the 20th. Should I just wait and buy them at the resort? We are only staying 3 nights.
There is no savings for advance purchase tickets unless you buy at least a 5-day ticket. The price difference between a 3-day and a 5+ day ticket is so little, that it's worth buying as many days as you can afford, and adding the no expiration option so they can be used for future trips. However, if you purchase your tickets at a Disney Store, you have to add the no expiration option at WDW.
If I'm buying a 10-day ticket, is it cheaper to buy it in advance? Sounds like it is. Are all advance purchases the same price? ie-Disney Store, disney.com, AAA, etc.
Is it a major pain to add on the no exp option at the park?
Yes, a 10-day ticket is cheaper if purchased in advance. My local AAA office sells only 4 and 5-day park hoppers, but they are a little less than the price at the Disney Store or Disney online. Least expensive that I've found are from www.ticketmania.com - where a 10-day park hopper that doesn't expire costs $340.
