Buying textbooks online

I've had great luck with half.com for used textbooks, and fairly good luck with ebay.

Now that I'm really into my program, I wish I had talked to some former students about what books I really needed to buy. I spent almost $1000 on textbooks my first semester of nursing school, and only cracked about half of them.

I'm being a bit more careful from now on and asking around about what I need. :)

Ok, I just looked up my book online (using the ISBN) and it's telling me some weird "International edition" stuff. What does that mean? And all these books are coming from overseas. Their ratings are good, but should I be wary?

International version of the books are ****usually**** the same book with a different cover and ISBN.......and are much cheaper. I looked at the links you included, they are guaranteeing that the content is exactly the same and are offering a money back guarantee. If the book is a lot cheaper, it may be a good option for you.

That said, we have not used the international versions as I haven't had any personal experience with them and am leary about losing any money on the "deal."

I have been able to find new and used copies of the books for less on amazon.com, half.com, textbooksdirect.com search and barnesandnoble.com, which is happens to the same on campus bookstore.

Good Luck!

Depending on the university, there's www.efollett.com as well.

Thanks guys! I looked up direct text books (the link is different than what you gave me,Jennifer) and found the website bookrenter.com. I can get my book for 60 days which is the length of my term for only $35. Any experience with that site or renting?

Quick note on international versions:

If you are going to attempt selling your books back to a bookstore at the end of the semester, do not purchase an international version of the book. The bookstores are not allowed to sell them and are not allowed to buy them back (disclaimer: I used to work for one and this was our very firm policy - we'd get in big trouble if we bought one back from somebody).

I am taking a research and analysis class as well and was wondering about the international edition. I want to resell my book, so will get a used on at amazon or half.com.

We've sold several textbooks on Amazon. When you are finished with your textbooks just resell them. :thumbsup2

I just had to buy a book for DS using Ebay. He actually had his book stolen during class the first day of class. Funny thing is the one I bought - the seller is located about 45 miles from the college... :scratchin I told Ds we are probably buying your book back...

last semester, one of my books was $243 at the bookstore and the lowest price I could find online was $193.
The internatioonal book was only $60. I was nervous that it would end up being different, but it was not.
:thumbsup2

I probably used them all over the last 5 years. Saved a fortune. Most of my law books came from Amazon and my undergrad books from half.com

DS bought several of his books at half.com just last week. School starts next week and we are nervous about whether or not they will arrive in time. Other than that, he saved a chunk of money

Thanks everyone! I used bookrenter.com to rent my text and alibris for my APA manual that I will need to use again and again. Yeah me. ha!

School is so different the second time around. We hardly used email and word processing when I was in school and that was only 10 years ago! This time I'm doing it completely online and even though I'm very experienced with software, internet and word processing, it's totally weird getting used to BlackBoard, etc.
