Buying SPG pts?

Anyone ever bought SPG pts?

I'd really like to try and upgrade to club for our 4 night stay in the beginning of Dec....I'm just about 1,000 pts shy...so for $50 ($25/500) I'll have enough.

I know there's no guarantee that a club room would be available...What do you think my chances are? Anyone get the "sorry, no rooms available" for the dates you're looking for, is that the norm or rare?

I realize this isn't what you were asking, but just so you know, there is a survey on their site right now to earn 250 points

It's simple and took me all of about 5 minutes and now I'll start accumulating points ahead of time!

At other Starwood properties I have not been able to book club upgrade when it was sold out. You have to wait 5 days prior to departure before booking it. But if you wait to buy your points until 5 days out then you wont have to pay unless it's available.

I know there are others here on the DIS that have posted that CL level was sold out but the S/D allowed them to add CL priviledges to their account for the 1000 per night (but not actually stay in a room on the club level) maybe someone else can comment on this.

What about if I booked club level now (paid for it) would I be able to switch it over to points at 5 days out?

We've stayed club 2x at Universal Hotels and depending on the price, you can't beat the continental brkfst in the morning with 2 kids.....
