This is exactly what she did. Lol.My son microwaved a cup of mac and cheese without the water and it smelled awful. This was actually his second time doing it. The first time it took months to get the smell to go away. This second time I asked my cleaning lady if she had any tips and used Mrs. Meyers Vinegar cleaner about two weeks after the incident. She scrubbed it pretty well and the smell was gone!

Is there ever a legitimate time when you would microwave something on high for 30 minutes?
On "High" power? I can't imagine you would have anything left but a chunk of coal if you microwaved any food on high for 30 minutes.Yes. If there weren't long-running microwave recipes, manufacturers wouldn't enable long cooking times.
Our 0 is quite near the start button. Sometimes DH has forgotten to reset something and when I put in a time , it went for minutes instead of seconds.I always have wondered why there isn't some sort of safety device in microwaves that prevents them from operating too long at too high a power.
Our last incident involved a frozen burrito from the vending machine being cooked on high for 30 minutes instead of 3 minutes. The person who put it in got called away and forgot about it.

Which is why microwave ovens have different cooking levels as well.On "High" power? I can't imagine you would have anything left but a chunk of coal if you microwaved any food on high for 30 minutes.

You can't fix stupid, and microwaves aren't new.

This seems like a step-by-step plan if you haven't tried anything yet...
