Buying something to get rid of burnt smell

Yes, there are things that take 30 minutes in the Microwave on high.

1. Whole chickens
2. Beef stew
3. Various other casseroles with meat

All the recipes I find on Google call for Medium, or Medium High (70%) power for chicken.

How many recipes for casseroles and stews? have you seen? There are tens of thousands of microwave recipes.

Again: PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. It's not the manufacturers responsibility that someone nukes something longer than needed at the wrong time setting and forgets about it.

I agree about personal responsibility. My point is, i sure can't find any microwave recipes that call for cooking for 30 minutes on High.

Cut a couple of lemons in half and place in a bowl with some water. Turn on and let it boil for about 5 minutes. Wipe out all the condensation. Then put a dish of baking soda in it for a few days.

Except, I'm not having a problem. :)
Clearly, continuing to harp on the perceived limitations of time+power settings on microwave ovens because you have a careless co-worker indicates that you are [still] having a problem with it.

Beef stew recipe (this isn't the one I use, but it's the first one I found on Google. There are MANY MANY more. . .)

This sounds good, and easy!

Also, a company that continues to replace ruined microwave ovens with $35 ones isn't getting much wattage. A recipe where the expected wattage is 1000 that needs 15 minutes on high, would need 30 minutes in a 500 watt oven https://www.microwavewatt.com

I like the taste of a slow cooker beef stew (slightly) better, but I cannot beat the time savings of these sorts of recipes. . .put it in and for-gedda-bout it!

OT, but this reminds me of something similar I remember asking my parents relentlessly when I was a kid: Why do cars go 100+mph if the highest speed limit anywhere in the country is 55mph? That has since been relaxed and raised but still 75 is the highest limit I've ever seen.

Just because it can, doesn't mean you should.

Nevada just raised (last week) the speed limit on a 130 mile stretch of Interstate 80 east of Reno to 80. . The speedometer on my Focus goes to 140.......the speedometer on my 1965 Mustang goes to 120.......I think the Mustang might stand a better chance of 140 than the Focus.

Wow!
When I was a baby, my parents drove from NJ to CA (my siblings were 2 & 3.5! crazy, I know)
There were stretches in the mid west that had no speed limit at all. Even if you ran off the road, there was not much to hit. I'm sure a lot has changed since the 60's. ;)

ETA: your link isn't working. It's an https: Perhaps you have to be logged in to read it?

Works fine for me. I don't have a New York Times account (or any newspaper for that matter).
